Well, I'm not going to criticize you for being unhappy with the brake squeal. If it really is as bad as you say, you have a right to complain.

But I do think that its your fault that you aren't doing anything to get it fixed. If the dealer you are going to isn't solving your problem then GO TO A DIFFERENT DEALER!!!!!!! It's not that hard...really. It's one of the many benefits of our free market economy.

And I wouldn't believe anything that my technician says about being "one of the top 3 RX-8 technicians in the U.S." That is complete B.S. I am 99.9% certain that there isn't a national RX-8 technician competition that results in a nationwide ranking. It sounds to me like your technician either (1) doesn't want to fix the problem or (2) doesn't know how to fix the problem, but wants to keep you as a customer so he is feeding you a line.

GO TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP!!!!!! (Have I made that clear enough.)

Some squeal is normal and to be expected on a sports car with "performance" brakes. Brembos can even squeal. But anyone who thinks a 3000lb RX-8 should sound like a dump truck when stopping is insane.

To the OP: take the new TSB into the dealer. Don't be a douche about it either. If they don't fix it, find another dealer. Request to have the service manager ride with you and experience it first-hand. If all that doesn't work, pull a knife on someone or something -- or sell the car. Whatever works for you.

Look, if his car was anything like mine he isn't talking about " a little bit of noise". It was constant and loud....totally unacceptable. That said, when my dealer denied me on the second replacement I took them I was going to go to Mazda directly. They phoned me 2 hours later and approved the replacement. The new TSB supersedes the previous one so there shouldn’t be a problem getting them replaced. The tech at my dealership said the Mazda3's had the same problem.

Qwest75...I know exactly how you feel about the brakes but you should be able to get them replaced with the new ones. A little brake squeal is fine but constant, loud brake squeal in not acceptable. There have been a couple of guys on the other side that have had these new style pads put in and they have had no problems.....stick with it.

i put new pads on at 10k it stop the squeel. oh well it the squeaking comes up again i'll put new pads. not a big deal. i love my 8

with such a strong subject i expected a whole bulletpoint list of issues - damn dude get real - i have some squeels here and there and i'm aware of the tsb so i figure 10 or 20k more on my car and i get free set of pads

I hate it when this list says just go to a different dealer, I also realise that this is the sad state of Mazda service. We can not expect a uniform level of service from a Mazda dealer. If they are a bad dealer don't expect Mazda to rectify their service problems just spin the wheel and hope you do better with the next dealer. We have become so accustom to this poor level of service that this is just part of the process. This is a load of crap. It is not unreasonable to expect Mazda to resolve this issue, there are many high performance breaks out there that don't squeal like this. I can understand this guy's frustration and rather then help him resolve it we jump down his throat and tell him basically to live with it.

Mazda needs to fix their problems instead of turning us into a bunch of sheep that accept any crap they feed us.

Since when does post counts entitle how much of a "dink" you can be?
I was only joking, if I was seriously going to be a "dink" (whatever that is) I wouldn't have tried to help him out with that DIY. Either way he could have searched and he probably would've found all the help he needed. Maybe i only have 400 some post counts but I've been watching this forum for a long time before I even registered, so let's not start anything here unnecessary.

For the record, some quality aftermarket pads from autozone will fix this? If so, I would be inclined to say "screw it" and just get some pads and put them on. I know its about the principle of the thing but that's what I'm thinking about doing instead of all the hassle of taking it to the dealer and arguing with them over something I can just fix myself and be done with it.

They're wrong. I had my brake pads replaced for the squeal a year ago and they're been reasonably quiet since.

So the problem appears to not be the car so much as your dealer telling you that the fix doesn't fix it (and had you researched it here, you would've known that the fix is worth doing).

Alright when I got my Rx-8 which was a 04 the brakes where squeaking when I was only going 30mph. I brought it back 2 days later and got the replacement pads from the TSB (was disapointed they didnt check ALL TsB's before giving me the car but whateva). So far no squeaks save for a few which many have noted are common place with performance brakes.

At which speed or speeds are you hearing this squeaking? If your dealership isnt willing to do the TSB go to another. Have the Manager ride with you and do a classic brake test, start at 20mph and work your way up to 60. Let him litteraly HEAR the problem.

Still wish there was more reason's as to why you regret buying the car. Like your wife left you, every damn teenager keeps asking me if I drift. Um.. Every damn month someone keys the car, I'm sick of pouring in oil every few fill ups. I dunno something more. Just remember why you bought it man!

If you want to feel better...come listen to my pt cruizer brakes... then you can hear some real squeal er actually more like squieeeesheeee. The little drum suckers in the back make more noise than two dump trucks stoppin, esp when they've been sitting wet for a while ...would I trade it just 'cause that?.. naa, small potatoes.

Thou I've had almost zero 8 brake squeal in 3 yrs anyway, I think MNAO finally got it correct in the 2nd. amended TSB where they say put brake grease on the pads, shims, plus all the retaining clips. I've done that myself as routine maintenance when I 1st painted the calipers long time ago, and again changing to Hawk HP+ pads this spring, and absolutely no squeal since in both cases.

qwest75, **** happens, you just gotta fix it, sometimes take things in your own 2 hands, and do it yourself, if need be, then git on w/life. It's really such small stuff to get in a huff about. You got a nice car, fix it and enjoy it if that's the only problem you got. Read the forum...you're one of the lucky ones, by all accounts, as far as difficulties.

dmc, after reading this thread from the top I was just about to post the same thing. The only thing that I would add is that if he walks into the dealership and jumps into everyone's face the way he did here, well, it's the old expression "you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar".

I've had the most recent brake TSB done over a month or two ago...and the squeal is completely gone. Yes, it bothered me when it happened...but mazda fixed it.

NUMBER THREE: DO BETWEEN 8 AND 15 CONSECUTIVE HARD BRAKES FROM ~60 MPH TO 10 - 20 MPH. IF YOU DO 60 - 20 THEN YOU MAY NEED TO DO MORE HARDS.

I did this everytime I had them replaced. I think what people are not understanding is that there are people that are having great trouble with these pads. NO mattter what I did or how I drove the brakes made a lot of noise.
