i'm posting this without reading passed the 2nd page...

1) i always use the second press honk on my 626 which has no alarm, that way people think it has one and are less inclined to try to break in (which happens a lot in one of the places i frequent)

2) you don't really have to worry about the ford thing as long as it's a J-car (i.e. the VIN starts with a J). Like the protege, rx and miata.
