Supposedly, but I've went against a few and we're either dead even or I pull slightly ahead. When acceleration differences comes down to tenths of second...a race is mostly driver dependent.

The S2K traps about 5MPH higher than the RX-8, that's no small difference and you're full of it. Also, you know there's no street racing stories on the forum, so why post your nonsense.

Yeah, yesterday I had a friend in the car and we had the windows down and were crusin'. And then, some guy in a piece of **** Ranger checked out my car and started revvin his engine at me. I was like are you kidding me? And then, he got behind me real close, started swerving back and forth revving all the while. Then. when he found out I didn't want to play along, he let it go.

I did not read anything in his post that said anything about street racing mate.

for what he typed up. he meant at the race track ?

Racing in the 1/4 mile is just that... 1/4 mile. this is when driver error and skill will greatly effect the outcome. you have your R/T to worry about, your 60ft launch, your shifts. reading the Lights and when/where to stage your car.. do you want a deep stage and shallow stage. launch on the first yellow, or second etc.. In this kind of drag racing. you will see slower cars beat out faster cars. for example my accord would run consistant 15.3's and would still beat out cars that would run consistant 14.9's and low 15's... why? because my reaction time was better, my launches were better... etc.

on the streets when you're at a rolling start, it is all dependant on the vehicle where driver responsibility is less, all you have to worry about is shifting.

I don't so much find that people want to race me. Usually, I find they want to follow me and maybe even run me off the road. I don't know why. I've seen this going back through all three of my previous Mazda Rotary cars (2 FB's and 1 FC).

LOL, you missed on both points. By 'supposedly' I meant I know what the s2k is CAPABLE of, but I've gone up against more than one to know that my rx8 (a car which you despise with all your forum-posting might) can hold up. And no mention of 'street' racing, either. You're full of it, and scare me with your post count until this point.

I don't despise the RX-8 one bit, it's a fact that the S2K is faster. If you want to pretend that you weren't talking about street racing that's your perogative. Yes the driver makes a difference, and if you claim isn't BS you happen to have come across three lousy S2K drivers.

Ike,

I completly agree. I got frustated with the 8. Eventhough is a fun car to ride, I had to let go and got myself a new 05 Porsche 996 Twin Turbo. It is stock , but my God the difference is day and night. I know a lot of people with modded 996TT but for now the power is enough. I have a couple of friends with Sti's and they are all happy that I made the change.

Cheers, Divi

Err... Porsche != S2000
That's too much difference between the Porsche and the 8/

As for Ike and Raptor2K post, I agree with Ike that .5 of a second can mean something in a race but in the case of a S2000 and the 8, it does take quite a fair amount of distance of straight to extend the lead. Ultimately its course dependent as well.

Yes, It is a big difference, but I still like the RX8 (Thats why I'm still around this forum, lol) When I see them on the road, I tell to myself " I might have a faster car now, but the RX8 still a nice car ".

How can I upload a picture to the post, guys???

I wish i could see a nice tuned 350z or STI around my way....dayton's full of stupid kids who think exhaust tips and air intakes somehow make their cars 9 second machines...anyways, if someone wants to race me and im not in the mood, i simply wont. I look over, laugh at them like I could have their pink slip anyday (whether I can or not) and let them go...BUT, sometimes ill stay behind them and then overtake when they dont see it just to be a complete ****....but that's me.

Theres this acquaintance of mine whom I haven't seen in a while. It's probably been 6 months. And the first thing he says to me is, "So how's your car running?" I say it is fine. Second thing he says to me, "I just got a new Truck...with a Hemi...3xxhp. We should line them up sometime."

There is nothing that does a 94 year old ladies heart as much good as seeing a nice young man in a snappy automobile sliding up aside of her with intent to race and then giving him a sweet little Crypt Keeper's grin as he gets all flustered. You just want to give him a squeeze! It is such a compliment, that is irresistable, and even better than having the girl at the car was say "Wow, that's a real sports car!". I take Mom out just for that thrill. She also wanted to pose with a real HD biker's leather coat on and his skull studded helmet for pictures to disturb my sister, the Troll.

I haven’t had anyone try to race me.
Maybe it’s because I haven’t owned the car very long, more likely it’s the fact that I don’t go looking for it. I think that “some” of this stoplight challenge stuff people mention is in their head. That said, if someone pulls up next to you, revs their engine, and points forward, they probably want to race.

Not that I don’t enjoy the idea of playing at the stoplights, but that is not why I bought this car. I know it’s not the fastest in straight-line acceleration.
I should know, I drove just about every coupe on the market before purchasing the 8 (BMW 325 & 330, GTO, G6, Acura, , Mustang, Accord V6 (surprisingly fast), WRX-STI, etc., etc.). I didn’t drive the 350z, don’t like the looks, and they are like ******** (everyone has one). The STI is “oh-my-god” fast, but it’s a 4 door, and pretty ugly too.

Anyway, I bought this car for the styling, uniqueness, interior, and general build quality. Oh, and by the way, IT’S FUN AS HELL TO DRIVE.
I would think (maybe wrongly) that the majority of 8 owners are more mature, past the point of playing “mine is bigger”. If you bought this car to blow the doors off everything on the road, you are probably not very happy with your car.
Don’t get me wrong, this is a fast car, but there are much faster cars in this price point.

If you get someone challenging you at a stoplight, be polite, just smile and wave. Then sit there as they speed off recklessly. Street racing is a recipe for all kinds of bad things, it’s not worth the risk.
If your pride will not allow that, roll your window down and tell them that this kind of car is for drivers. Going in a straight line is for muscle cars, and this car is more sophisticated than that. Invite them to the play on the twisties. My money says they will have no interest in that. If they still want to go … fine, driving the twisties is MUCH more fun anyway! Just do it in a safe place.

personally I much prefer embarassing cars on the roadcourse, they seem to have a much harder time with that than just smoking them in a straight line.

The only thing that pisses me off about driving it, is the fact that I cant pull up to a light, or get on the freeway without a modded out mustang, 350z, STI, etc. pulling up beside me wanting to race. It is getting more frequent lately and is really starting to get on my nerves. I didnt buy the car to be a street racer, I bought it because its one of the best looking cars on the market IMO and is fun as hell to drive. What do you fellas do when this happens to you? Is there some intl. sign for "I know your car is faster, I dont care, I dont want to race"?

There was a particular incident the other day with a 350z on the freeway. He knew I didnt want to race and still paced me for a good 3 miles, almost taunting a me. I was gettin extremely pissed off and was considering inviting him to pull over to settle it a different way, when he peeled off to his exit.
There's a reason why the insurance industry does not want to insure someone under 25 when renting out a car.

It's clearly situations like these, dude, that's scaring them and the statistics show. So, how do you overcome this? Look at it this way: when you yield to their challenge, you've already lost. Who is controlling the situation? Think about it.

Now, I ain't saying you can't speed. Speed away but not when you're filled up with a full tank of emotion. That's a losing combo.

Speed when you're not emotion-filled but with your full focus on the driving and enjoying the car. Race-car drivers are not there driving at high speed because they are pissed off but because they are laser-focused on winning the race. Every
ounce of attention is on the driving. At that speed, shifting one's attention from the driving to being pissed will kill you. In short, a pissed driver is a lousy driver: he is a loser and everyone near him/her could possibly lose their lives, too. This is a fine example of a lose-lose situation.

Cheers and have an enjoyable but safe drive,
Art

It's sort of like being an Olympic Boxer - everytime he goes to a bar, someone wants to challenge, but he can lose his status if he gets into a fight - Just be greatful you have a car that looks so totally hot that people get nuts and compliment it by challenging... I think the Samari had something like that so they practiced a kind of zen self-control - this actually made them seem even more superior...

I know this is an older thread but this happened to me about two weeks ago. A guy that is my age(i recognized him from HS, i am 20 right now) pulled up in his Pontiac GTO and started revving the engine and he wanted to race. They didn't recognize the car, a guy with him said "i think thats an RX8".

Anyway i told him that he would blow my doors off, im not sure how fast GTO's can go, i know that they carry a lot of power and in a straight line race im pretty confident an Automatic RX8 stock would not stand a chance at all.
