Question Whur whur sound

I have an 09 RX8, bought about a month ago. At various speeds/various gears and often varying according to road surfaces etc I hear a sort of whur whur whur sound underlying the general buzz of the engine itself. The tires are quite new, replaced shortly before I bought it, am I likely hearing tire roar or can you sometimes hear the prop shaft spinning? Its definitely a rotational sort of noise and seems to be below or behind me. Any ideas? Thanks.

Probably just your tires, but hard to say without actually hearing it. Some tires are extremely loud at times and then you switch road surfaces and they are quiet again. Some spots where I live there is like a 100 foot spot that makes a lot of noise but looks no different than the other sections of road, it just happens.

What tires do you have? Google them and see what people say about their noise, if you have the stock dunlop's then they are pretty noisy.

Without driving the car we would need a recording, and a decent one at that.

thanks for the replies. Seems nothing to be overly concerned with then. To actually record the sound would be very tough because it is quite subtle compared to the sounds of the engine itself and I doubt would even be audible via a recording. The engine is the one place I'm sure the sound ISN'T coming from as it seems more beneath or behind me. Defintely just a standard issue, no turbos and wastegates and all that good stuff. I once had a twin Turbo Supra that made all those sounds.

I'd say it's either the tranny or the LSD. Or maybe it's both. I detected the sound/noise (also coming from below or behind the driver's seat) when my car had around 15K miles and brought it in for a checkup. But I was told by the dealership that everything was normal. The noise got really loud around 45K miles. I decided to change out the tranny and LSD fluids to Amsoil synthetic fluids. The noise hasn't gone away completely, but it's way quieter. It's probably down to the same level as when I first heard it around 15K miles. This car is just noisy, as I was told many times by the service adviser.

Thanks, I'll mention this to the Service guys next time I'm there and maybe get the same fluid change-out. It's not really such an intrusive sound but just one I occasionally hear at certain places and I was mainly concerned that it was possibly the lead-up to something big breaking. That said, they sold me the car with a Lifetime Warranty on the powertrain so most things it could be down there would likely be covered anyway.
