When your Renesis crosses over, will you replace it with another?

Mine's a 3 year lease that's up in about a year. Since this looks like a thread that the Mazda marketing guys might poke around in, I'll say it again...
I love this car. If, next year, there is a forced-induction factory RX-8 available, I will probably buy one.
If not, I'll probably try something else.

I think it's funny this thread even exists. It's like many are convinced that their engines are ticking time bombs.
When I stated what I planned on for the next engine, that was because I plan on boosting it to around 12-14psi, so eventually between that and the race track it will go. Is this what everyone else is referring to also, I'm guessing no.

Figure out? They had it figured out. The RX-8 would have AMAZING fuel mileage, and MUCH more horsepower, had the EPA not stepped in and made them lengthen the life of the cat......
They dumped like 20-30% more fuel in...all in the name of cat life..
Rediculous -.- Didn't they ever stop to think..hey! Maybe, rather then saving our $200 catalytic converter...we should save these people $200 in gas per month? Hmm..nahh!

so if we get an after market Ecu with a better map, or someone cracks the encription on our factory one we are set? Instant torque, HP, and MPG with NO MODIFICATIONS except re-flashing?
#58
well oreo I doubt it would be as drastic as you think....over in cali those guys at RB have allready created a reflash for the ecu..and it picks up like 8 more hp....your not going to get even close to 25 hp, 25 lbs/ft , or 5 more mpg....
deal with it, its a rotary....
but I plan to keep the car forever....hell I have my 89 cavalier still wtih the 3800 swap....I grow to attached to my cars....I plan to build a huge *** garage on my lot in a few years to house my cars i'll pick up and keep in the next 20 years.

In light of the news about the recall, looks like everyone's answer to this thread is going to end up being yes. Who would have thought..

News about the recall? If you mean about the next reflash, that's hardly a reason to toss out an award winning engine. After seeing the "leaked" video I'm certainly no fan of MNAO, but then, I didn't buy my car from them. I haven't had any major problems in 2 years / 53K miles either. I have experienced some of the symptoms for which this next reflash/recall is coming and from my perspective, Mazda is responding to a problem with a fix. I expect my engine will be mechanically sound for quite some time to come. Heck, I got 268k miles out of my old Explorer before I traded it in on this car. I don't see why I couldn't get that out of this one.

^^ Well, well, I guess I do. Man, a lot can happen in a day. Wow. I thought I was just waiting for the reflash to become a recall. Now I get to let them "test" my car for 4 hours and hope they don't stick a reman engine in it. Sheesh! I should be ok though. Mine is still running pretty strong.

Just a thought on how long you could keep your RX. I have worked previously in the aviation industry as a mechanic and if you kept up your car like you have to keep up an aircraft then the only reason you would be without it would be an accident! Honestly, any part can be replaced, rebuilt, remanufactured. I think this car will be popular enough due to it's uniqueness that you could do that. Having said that, I have been around long enough not to say I will keep anything forever (houses, cars, wives, etc.).

If I still own my RX-8 after the warranty has expired,,I would like to remove the engine and do some porting to it. By then Hymee will have perfected the supercharger and I could install that with some pulley changes and blaze down the road. Or even Turbo with a bit more boost.
Or I might just trade it in on whatever Mazda has to offer with a Rotary at that time.

If i can not convice the wife to move to okinawa for awhile so i can be with my side of the family . Then yes i will be keeping this car, most likely wil be a garage kept car. and i will drive some cheap car. atm looking for a good first gen miata for a daily driver. So i can force the wife to drive her s2k instead of my 8.

I made a mistake of trading my 1972 Toyota Celica back around 1975. I have longed for that car every since and even more so now. It was the first new car I had ever owned and it would still turn heads today if it were restored to original. Damn I miss that car.
I will NOT make that mistake again. I will keep my RX-8 on the road as long as I can. Twenty more years and I will be too old to drive. No reason I can't keep her going. Let's see, 20 years at 15,000 mi per year, that''s only 300,000 miles. Shouldn't be a problem. By then I should be able to give it to my future grandchild and let him smash it up while chatting on his Apple iPlasmaphone.

I'm keeping it until I die. When I'm old and grey and too weak to push the clutch or to shift, I'll get one of those fancy robot suits with muscle enhancements just so I can drive it still. If the engine blows ... I'd replace the engine with another renesis or whatever new comes out

My daughter wants me to give it to her when I am done with it so let's figure on another 20-30-40 years (i am 52) I will be done with it (longevity runs in my family so let's say 40). By then, she could afford to put enough gas in it to drive it down the block and back (then flood out costing another months pay). Maybe by then they will have a rotory prius engine.

I like this car more than any other I've ever owned. I'm keeping it as long as I can. The shortest time I've ever owned a car was six years, and I got rid of that car so I could buy my RX-8 (I got ten years and 130K+ miles out of my two previous cars). After almost 2 years of ownership, I still look forward to driving my 8 to work every day....
If the engine goes after it's out of warranty and there's not a new rotary-powered car that interests me, I'll have the Renesis re-built *and* substantially modded... <g>
BTW, d/k about you guys, but all the folks with their panties in a wad over the recall makes me smirk, heavily... ;-)

If I keep the 8 then I am going to pull the Renesis, trans and CF drive shaft and sell them to help cover my Ford V8 conversion. This would only be if I kept the 8 and when the warranty runs out. Older Vipers are getting pretty cheap these days so that is always a consideration when deciding to keep the 8.
