I love the idea of replacing the Renesis with a better one someday, but everyone's talking about it like it's gonna be plug-&-play. Something tells me it won't be that easy. Who's to say it'll even be possible without major modifications and large sums of money?

I will upgrade to whatever new rotary Mazda has released.

But as I've always said, if there's a new RX-7 on the market the RX-8 will become a grocery getter and just get the Renesis it has now. Though, I expect without FI that this engine will last at the absolute least 150K.

Since I only kept my last car for 3 years the wife says I need to keep this one for at least 5 years, I’m shooting for 7 so I can have two years of no payments. Depending on what Mazda puts out in the next 5 years I may just switch to a new rotary. Of course that depends on if gas is going to be $6/gallon. I’ll also be keeping my eye on the Evo X, Camaro and 07 M3.

As far as how long will I keep this car, I have no idea. I've learned that trying to predict what will happen down the road doesn't work very well for me.

Anybody know for sure what a new renesis costs right now? That kind of info would help me decide if I want a supercharger when one comes out, as I'm sure it would void the powertrain warranty...

I won't put a new engine in the car. I'll either move on to Mazda's next rotary or maybe the new Camaro.

i'm planning to drive my 8 until it can no longer run, and i suspect it'll be something OTHER THAN the engine that'll go first to make it undrivable

the only way this plan will be derailed is IF Mazda brings out a Factory MS RX-8......

btw my goal, provided the MS RX-8 scenario never pans out, is to go 250k on the Renesis, wouldn't that be getting my money's worth on that engine lol

Im going to buy another Renesis(prefer Brand new one) in maybe 2-3 years. When this one dies , I will just have someone to Build it for me.

but I baby my 8 too much .... oil change every 1.5-2.5K, radiator flush every 7K .... Clean my K&N every 5 K ..... so I dunno ..... maybe I can hit 200K miles ! :D

unless they figure out how to make a stronger and more fuel efficient rotary engine, i don't think i'll get another rotary powered car.

If it is possible, I think I will be keeping my 8.. maybe put in a supercharged renesis when this engine gives out... What will be going first is the g35 that I have.. I will upgrade that car when I need too... the 8 is just so unique for the price of the car, that I think its worth it to keep for a long time, like the classic miata and 7...

I'm looking forward to a B8 audi A4 when they come out in 2 years as a new daily driver... the 8 will have to prove itself and reliable and dependable for a fun 2nd car in order to stay in my garage

... so if the engine blows, its not looking very good

hmm...maybe by the time that it's time to come, someone will have developed a RENESIS 3 rotor.
That'd be fun....and I can dream...

If every Rx8 now will need a new engine by 2010. You are right, it wont be very active at all.
