My proceedure:

1. Stop at gas pump.
2. Get out of car.
3. Look back at car to admire how awesome it looks.
4. Go to trunk.
5. Get out my bottle of Lucus Oil UCL.
6. Open up drivers door and pop fuel door because I forgot to do it when I first got out.
7. Smile at people checking out my awesome car.
8. Put 4 oz. of Lucas UCL in the tank.
9. Start filling with fuel.
10. Put Lucas UCL back in trunk.
11. Go around to front of car and check oil, add if needed.
12. Close hood and look back at car to admire how awesome it looks.
13. Put fuel hose back and smile at people checking out my awesome car.
14. Repeat in another 250 miles.

I had my car on track at BeaveRun a few weeks ago and at the very end of the day coming off a high speed turn onto the back straight I threw a CEL followed by the oil light. It down less than 1.5 quart. The car obviously recognized it as an issue.

Well, then Mazda is "almost close", but what do they know about their own product...

(page 16)
Dipstick for my 2010 doesn't look like the one on page 16. I have a hole on top & on the bottom, no dot's bumps or holes inbetween.

I check the oil once a week & add as needed putting about 1/4 quart in at a time & then check again. I fill it until its about 1/4" under the top hole. Have added about 1-1/2 quarts total in the first 3,000 miles. First oil change done today @ 3,250 miles.

If you sand the dipstick, make sure to sand across, not lengthwise. Having the sanding marks horizontal allows the dipstick to hold on to the oil. Lengthwise makes it hard to read because it allows the oil to run.

Well, he either runs the snot out of it, or has a very generous OMP. Either way, he's probably going to have a strong engine. I just hope for his sake that the sensor or light never malfunction! That would be an awful way to lose an engine. Easy enough to check every other fill-up. There are other fluids under the hood that should be kept an eye on, belts, hoses, etc.. The oil light indicator isn't a good substitute for eyeballing the engine.

That's a good point.

The intermediate bumps are there, but they are very subtle and hard to see. Look carefully at an angle under good light.
