my shifting got police stationed on the road i live off of tonight.

when i drove my friend home an hour later after my "shifting" the police were sitting there. all lights off, waiting, facing the direction i was going too. still there an hour later when i came back. and they had switched sides... -_- im going to get a ticket soon. or worse.

in other, completely unrelated, news, i got my car back from the bodyshop. and im.. uh.. im pretty happy about that.

i typically shift when the engine is warm at:
1-2 6-9k
2- 5-9k
3-whatever speed limit is -9k
4 shift
5shift
6shift

i dont use above 2nd for accelerating typically unless im on an onramp

waiting for the RPMS to drop to idle with the clutch in from 35 mph and then shifting to say 4th and a double clutch still wears the syncros?

the wear/stress put on a synchro is greater the more friction it has to provide in matching speeds of all the rotating pieces... this is why its bad to shift into first at say 30mph. 1st gear will do 30, but the synchro cant handle that kind of stress and wear for long.... see my edit to the post above you
just learn to double clutch. You don't have to learn to do it fast, just learn the overall technique. It really really really helps when you need to get the car from 6th to 2nd rather quickly and smoothly.

4-5k under normal conditions, and like sage said, double clutch on down shifts, you'll love it

i read a lot that the rotary does like to be revved nice and high, its at a happy medium at those high rpm ranges.

Well it beeps when you reach the redline warning you that it's probably time to go up a gear, but to make use of all the available power you shift a split second after the beep but before the ecu cuts power.

Otherwise just cruising around I don't pay too much attention to the exact rpm's, just listen to engine, it communicates with the driver very well once you become one with it

Does shifting between 3-4k help gas mileage

I love my 8 and I only had it for 3 days now, but I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW QUICK THIS BABY DRINKS 93, is there anyway to help this at all? Does 3-4k shifting help, or anything else ?

You haven't specified what mileage you are actually getting, so we have no way of knowing if you have a mechanical problem causing poorer than normal mileage, or if everything is fine and you just are in sticker shock over what is normal.

So without any of that information, we can only point you to the basics: New and Potential Owners Start Here - Gas Mileage

Shift points won't significantly affect mileage.

I'm gonna fill up and reset the miles, when I get 3/4 I'll doc, 1/2, 1/4 and E, I'll document all and you let me know thanks!

The gas gauge isn't linear. Just record the mileage and how much you fill up for. Try to fill up at the same pump from tank to tank to get a good read on mileage, since not all pumps shut off at the same level of gas in the tank.

And the more highway mileage you can do the better. Technically to really get a solid read on what your car is capable of (to identify problems), you should get a 100% highway tank with cruise control on the entire time at a stable speed. But this isn't always viable.

Actually I filled up today and I made another discovery which could very well be why I'm getting horrible gas mileage , I'm not sure what caused it but my car started idling really rough while sitting at a chic fila drive through, and I reved engine to keep it running and there was a horrible misfire, as I drive home the service engine light is constantly blinking , I lost almost all power, then I stopped at pep boys to get the code pulled the guy was being a dick and didn't tell me the code, he just said it had a misfire on cylinder 2, what does this mean? I just got it Thursday from a dealer and am still under warranty until my 30 days are up, I'm gonna take it back up there but any ideas?

A flashing CEL is ALWAYS a misfire. 100% of the time. And misfires kill mileage, cats, O2 sensors, engines and under rare-but-possible cases, burn the car to the ground.

Fortunately, we have a thread with how to figure out why you have them: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tec...t-here-222280/
