At what RPM do you shift for normal driving...

hey, I jsut wanted to see what rpm people shift at during normal driving.

Mine -
1st to 2nd at 3000rpm
2nd to 3rd at 3500rpm
3rd to 4th at 3500 rpm
4th to 5th at 3500rpm
5th to 6th at 4000rpm

greg985 01-17-2009 01:07 PM

i only shift at 9k+ rpm

Easy_E1 01-17-2009 01:09 PM

Between 4000 and 5000 rpm. But mines an AT.

04RX8man 01-17-2009 01:14 PM

normal driving i try to keep it under 3750 RPM's for the best mileage but that's hard so i try to shift before 5k unless i'm "burning the carbon out" then 9k FTW

greg985 01-17-2009 01:15 PM

for real I shift around 3k

Razz1 01-17-2009 01:33 PM

I go by the feel....

Brettus 01-17-2009 01:36 PM

I go by what mood i'm in so there is no "normal " driving for me .

04RX8man 01-17-2009 01:38 PM

^well i was boosted i'd always b in a "boosted" mood and want to feel boost constantly haha!!!

Brettus 01-17-2009 01:54 PM

/\ an interesting thing about a boosted car vs an NA car .
Boosted = safer
When I was N/A and wanted a bit of a thrill i would wind it out in 2nd to 9000 rpm .In a built up area this put me at double the legal speed limit .
Now with boost all i have to do to get the same (better) thrill is mash the throttle for maybe 2 seconds at maybe 4000 rpm .
Only slightly over the speed limit .

So Boosted = safer

We Kiwis are very logical ....

04RX8man 01-17-2009 03:01 PM

^just another reason to go boosted

zencaptain 01-17-2009 03:03 PM

Aorund 5 grand unless someone p'd me off

byez 01-17-2009 03:27 PM

Under 3500 rpm until coolant & oil are up to temps.

Still wondering if it gets better mpg switching up to 5th/6th gear when cruising at 60/70 km/hr or to leave it in 4th and at a higher rpm but still under 3,500 rpm.

Up to 9000 a few times a week when the roads are clear and I have no passengers.

kersh4w 01-17-2009 03:36 PM

3500rpm for 1-2
3000 rpm for 2-3
25000 rpm for 3-4-5-6

i keep the rpms down for sound reasons. catless rotary ftw.

AAChaoshand 01-17-2009 04:56 PM

LOL 25000 damn dude, 8 rotar engine?

kersh4w 01-17-2009 05:57 PM

bwahahaha!

yeah. its the accessport guys. all of you should really get onboard. set the redline rpm to whatever you want.

paulmasoner 01-17-2009 06:09 PM

normal driving? 5-6K rpms until i hit cruising speed

Kevo 01-17-2009 07:12 PM

1-2 9k
2-3 9k
3-4 9k
4-5 9k
5-6 9k

Semiazas 01-17-2009 07:13 PM

i normally shift around like 4-5k and its smooth.. any higher makes me wanna hit 9500

AAChaoshand 01-17-2009 07:18 PM

Yeah I usually shift at 3000-3500 RPM unless I am making a turn from a residential road to a highway then I will shift higher around 5k

ken-x8 01-17-2009 07:22 PM

3000 to 4000 until it's warm. Then whatever fits my mood.

Ken

While waiting for the engine to stabilise at operating temperatures, I shift between 5000 and 5500. Once the temperature stabilises, I go between 7000 and 9000 until I reach my desired cruising speed.

Totally depends on the driving conditions and my mood. In other words, 1K to 9K and everything in between. Bless our Renesis broad RPM range!

4k is a good, all around number.
