Went for a small drive of 1500kms to see some friends over the weekend - Return trip intermittent snow but the car just loved the cold. Thankfully the local law enforcement seemed to show little interest in my travels. New clutch is fully bedded in and looking forward to another track day.

Wife and I went for lapping day at Calabogie Motorsports Park. She took the IS-F and I took my 8. Swapped cars for the last run and nearly black flagged myself... the IS-F is such a handful compared to the 8!

Here's a shot of the cars cooling down by a lake afterwards.

I learned how to brake with my left foot while maintaining 2-3k rpm with my right so I wouldn't stall. Was tricky at the start, but I got better with practice

Is your engine "chasing the RPM"?

Yes, thankfully. I have not seen any gunk in the oil dipstick since changing the oil. New problems came up. On top of my head, the CELs are: P0420 P0443 P0456. Just when my car is due for SMOG, all these emission lights popped up.

Oh, and I replaced my air filter. Two years worth...

Snapped a quick pic at Goodbox after installation. Also got a windshield banner on. I'm super happy with how they came out, and anybody else interested in eyelids like this can get them from Goodbox Motorsports' website. Erick will paint them for you if you want them painted.

Was anyone here bidding on these RX-8 All-Weather Full Floor Mats in eBay? Well, I won that auction. Cleaned it up and now in the car. I got it for a steal, if you look at the shipping label, won the auction at less than that price.

Tried to replace my purge solenoid last night. All went well until I matched the OEM with the one I have, it wasn't the right one. Returning it and getting the right one.

Put in a new Mazdatrix aluminum driveshaft after discovering the stock CF shaft's u-joints are non-replaceable and a new CF shaft is $1150 street price, $950 racer price. $450 AL was the way to go.

Any questions about driveshaft weight that I can now definitively answer:
Stock carbon fiber shaft: 12.8 lb
Mazdatrix aluminum shaft: 12.3 lb

Measured with a calibrated digital shipping scale. Mazdatrix claims the stock driveshaft is 13.0 and their AL is 11.9, so they are over a half-pound optimistic on the difference. Not complaining as it's still 1/2 lb lighter than stock.

Lighter than stock yes.
I doubt it's as strong.

Alum. Has issues of "whipping" at high RPM.

Let us know how it works.

Actually U Joints were available early on, same as NB Miata.

Mazda part number P003-25-060A

Good luck finding genuine though.

Lots of things were available in the past, but aren't available anymore so they aren't any help.
Even if they were available, removing the old ones looks like it would require machining as they are staked in, not held with clips. The grooves for clips or another retaining method would have to be machined into the yokes. Probably cost more than the new AL prop shaft.

Meanwhile, today I finished up the work, installing a new Racing Beat resonated midpipe (shiny!) to mellow the B&B *cough* "muffler".

Very nice.

How is the B&B exhaust? From what i hear on youtube it's the best of the bunch soundwise.

Done any driving since the Alum. Driveshaft install?
