$500 for gas?
I'm jealous actually.
I just had a 2000k road trip, but I rented a KIA, got about 32 mpg.
I think the cost differential almost equaled a free rental.
I would love to go on a long road trip in mine one day.

Definitely not looking forward to the gas bill, but almost felt the RX-8 was asking me to take it. How could I resist? :-) Took it today on a 2.5 hour round trip through central Arizona mountains as a practice run.

got my baby back yesterday! they didn't find any problems with the tug on the back but they did find a leak in the fuel pump, so that was replaced and then they aligned it just because racecar. I'm ecstatic to get back out there with my girl

Yesterday, I bought a 33 gallon air compressor and some air tools. I'm looking forward to making good use of those.
Today, I lifted my ride height a little. It's still pretty low, but I can actually go over speed bumps without worrying about my car breaking in half. I may be imagining it, but it feels a bit smoother on these awful Dallas roads as well while the cornering doesn't feel significantly different. I think it looks better as well since the tops of the wheels are about even with the fenders rather than behind them. I really don't know why the original owner wanted it that low.
Hopefully next weekend, the weather will permit me to slap in these Race Roots coils and new plugs.

Changed my oil/filter today and helped my brother do the same on his Miata for the first time. I put my 3.7 quarts in and went for a drive. I forgot to check the oil level between doing mine and his, and apparently I didn't put enough in so 10 miles later my light came on :l Pulled over and checked the level and it was on the bottom dot. Luckily I had a full quart and my funnel in the trunk for topping off. Derp

I made the classic boob move today.I have a radiator leak at the base of the top hose connection and i was making a temp fix with some J&B cold weld and in a moment of attention lapse i broke the recovery tank nipple off approx one inch of it is left.
I took somwe pics on my newer I-phone and as soon as i figure out how to get it on my computer i will post pics of my before and after temp fix(if it works).

Search the site. Type "site:rx8club.com" followed by your symptoms into google or Bing and see what your search returns. It could be caused by a variety of things. This is not the section of the forum to post problem reports in.

Driving out today
It's the big day with a four hour leg in store this evening up to Las Vegas, and then through Death Valley on Saturday. Got the tires up to 38psi for the extra peeps and luggage.

One of my headlights went out the other night. I figured if I was going to go through the trouble of pulling the front bumper again I may as well yank the other bulb too and pop in some HIDs. I drove up the street to DDM Tuning here in HB and bought their entry-level bargain kit for $29.99. I had it in my last car and the HIDs worked very well, especially considering how inexpensive they were. Install was a breeze, simple plug'n'play. I have to say the 6000K lights look very nice against Whitewater Pearl.
Here is a comparison shot, HID vs stock. Should be pretty obvious which is which.
And an after shot.

Separate the clear plastic from the taillight assembly, remove any visible condensation/liquid, let dry, and replace. While you have it apart, you might as well seal it up with weather stripping as well. There's a DIY post here
