I flooded it for the first time :\

My mother-in-law blocked my garage door yesterday and I remembered at 10:00 PM that my car was still in the driveway. So I decided to move it into the garage. It was about 40 degrees and the car was pretty damned cold. I thought I should probably let it warm up but then said to myself, "I've never had starting issues". I shut it down maybe a minute after starting it.

Well, this morning, when I tried to start it up, I gave up on the first crank of over 5 seconds... then it started on the second crank of more than 5 seconds.

Luckily, I got it started without killing the battery and since then, all is back to normal. *phew*

Drove it home last night and didn't realize I passed 198,000 miles. Getting closer!

Nice man, seems like your second motor has been treating you very well also.

Thanks dude! Don't get me wrong though, your car is clean and done right compared to a lot of other ones. Hope you get everything back together before SevenStock.

Took my car for an alignment today to get more negative camber on the front. The previous guy who did mine couldn't get the the camber past -2. I read and did some research about TeamRX8 getting the same amount of negative camber on stock height; I'm lowered in Progress Technology Springs paired with Koni Yellows. Luckily, a guy nearby who works for Firestone also tracks an RX-8 and was able to manage to get it up to -2.6 on both sides by sacrificing some caster.

What's the reason for the camber? Stance or performance? I ask because sacrificing caster for camber is not a very good idea. Caster gives you increased camber when you want it, in a corner. Straight line (for performance) speed does not like camber

Yeah, I was aware of that actually and do know higher caster is good for high speed stability. It's honestly more for looks more than anything due to the low offset of my wheels. I do hit the track occasionally, but it's more for the fun factor rather than serious competition.

Wonderful. I'm pushing 95k on my original motor and keeping my fingers crossed.

Rotary's don't last long on crossed fingers. Ideally you should be managing the maintenance and care properly. That's better than crossed fingers.

My original engine has made it to 127k following RIWWP's advice :-)

I take very good care of mine, actually. It's my baby.

Just treated my 8 and myself to BHR ignition. I doubt either of the previous owners changed the coils and plugs, and they were pretty shot (the dreaded white spots were in abundance, especially prevalent on the trailing coils which led to shitty idling). There was a very noticeable difference in starting time, throttle response, and power both at low and high RPMs. We'll see about gas mileage, because now I drive a little harder. :P

Congratulations on the car! Just fyi, white spots on coils mean nothing (not saying yours weren't bad though).

The change in idle behavior and overall performance of the car in addition to the condition of both the plugs and coils led me to believe my coils and plugs were bad.

I thought lots of white spots were a bad thing?

White spots don't mean anything. You can have failing coils without then, and good coils with them.

Mazda sent this to all their dealers a while back to tell them to stop using white spots, or the lack, as a means of coil diagnosis.

Yes, white spots are usually on failing coils, but it is because fail coils are old and old coils have had lots of heat which causes white spots. White spots and coil health are not directly connected at all.

An analogy is: your fuel gauge reads low and oil dipstick reads low at the same time. It's not because they both meter the same thing, it's because gas and oil are both consumed due to driving. Same thing here.

If you want to diagnose your coils, get a timing light or a coil tester.

Interesting, thanks for that. But I won't need to change my coils anytime soon, so I'm set on that front. :D

Snow tires on, new coolant tank with sensor, replaced another leaking oil line.

Made a TODO list: Need to look at my OMP and lines sometime (more leaks), Sohn adapter install, clear side markers, ...
