Don't use synthetics....how many time u need telling, Mazda tells you over and over again. Not only a waste of money, also totally unsuited to this very low stressed engine.

Are you being sarcastic?

Actually, it's really quite obvious that he's being sarcastic. I think I got five words into his post before I realized he was totally BSing.

That's true, but because he was being sarcastic the accuracy of his statements are irrelevant.

I just got a new 2009 R3, good discounted price! It seems this new engine has been totally revised, but the "advice" (I mean from Mazda) is still against using synthetic, even after all the revisions?

you need to understand everything they "updated" has nothing to do with Synthetic oil.

and 5w20 ... even with double oil pressure I still think u need 5/10w40 ...

blah, what do I know ...

here's a good explanation on the synth/mineral debate....seems to be the wear additive/detergent ratio that's creating some issues.

For me, I prefer SL and sometimes, SJ Rated oil. and people that knows oil should know why.
may be because of certain lowered additives that reduces catalytic harm/environment harm or other mandated issues. not from being able to pass the wear test, but how much less ppm's of byproducts after being burned...

yeah, i see some quality full syn being that grade and i think thats the reason why.

valvoline user by the way. full and/or conventional

Using 5W30 Mobil Clean 5000. What my shop carries and what they change it with per my request every 3000 miles.

Just looked it up:

Mobil Clean 5000: Conventional Oil
Mobil Clean 7500: Synthetic Blend

Use any 5w20.. Cheapest works fine for me. They all pretty much the same.. Rx-8 will burn it all up anyway...just add more and follow your manual.

I use mainly ford motor oil from walmart.

There has been suggestions that 5W20 does not adequately protect our engines. While it may or may not be fine, the consensus is to take a safer route and get an heavier oil. This was also suggest by the ppl @ Mazmart who does teardowns and rebuilds on a regular basis.

Yet, my experience has been similar to Squidward's.

I have over 150,000 miles on my 2004 MT, everything stock (no mods), 91 octane from Shell, Mobil, Chevron, or Union 76, 5w20 conventional only, never used premix. I used to top off with Castrol GTX conventional oil when it was $1.81 at Walmart up until 2 years ago when prices sky-rocketed. Last 2 years I've been topping off with Walmart Supertech brand conventional oil.

I should qualify that I do mostly fwy cruising. In the mornings, I start the car and go (no warmup) but I go very easily until the car is warmed up. I don't care what the temp gauge shows, I'll cruise gently for around 20 min before I'll even push the engine hard or attempt to redline to burn carbon out. Done it this way for 6.5 years on my RX8.
