The warranty company will not cover the LIM (lower intake manifold) only the part inside that is stuck. Is this SSV? The mechanic said it was secondary valve system that was stuck in the LIM. He also said if I just replace the stuck part and clean the LIM that the problem will come back if the LIM is not replaced. Is this BS? To replace the LIM it would cost me $1500 for the part and $1300 labor to drop the motor down to replace the LIM. I had them do a compression test anyways just in case it fails the test and they have to replace the motor. That will save me on the labor for pulling the engine out. I will get those results sometime today; they did not have time to do the test yesterday evening.

I’m not sure what is fact or fiction. Is it an acceptable risk to just replace the stuck part and have them clean the LIM or does the LIM have to be replaced?

The compression is good, great even. Ok here is the problem. The warranty company will not pay for the fix unless I authorize the tear down of the motor. When they get to the part, the adjuster will come out and look at it again. If he does not approve the fix I'm out $1300+ whatever it takes to fix it. I told them to go ahead and do it. Please pray the warranty company honors the repair.

You seriously should have just brought your car back home, pulled the CEL codes, and seen if it actually is the SSV code that is tripped.

Then you should have pulled up the video on how to clean the SSV, done that process, and then drove the car to see if the CEL goes away.

You would have then saved yourself at least $1300, if not way more.

You seem to be in a hurry to make yourself bankrupt on this car.

You may be right. However, I am in the middle moving, I am a part-time student, I work full time, and a husband/father. Not to mention I’m fighting a really bad cold right now. I'm so busy; I do not have the time track down the issue. I used my last vacation day to knock out the coils, wires, and plugs. I dropped it off at the dealer because I a still have a warranty. It's still not denied yet, so hopefully when they take it apart and show what is wrong with the car the Warranty Company pays for the full repair. If not then I’m just SOL I guess.

I live in Summerville, SC and moving closer into town near Charleston this weekend. I could use a good Car buddy. Nobody around here likes working on cars, at least that I met. The shop is breaking down the motor as we speak but I could use the help if anything else happens or I can help them with their projects.

And I was going to volunteer until I saw you said SC.

I recommend installing a catch can, in line from that vacuum line going to the top of the fill neck to the IM. There's a write up on here about that.

However, it could void a warranty if a place is finicky(However, you'd also have to get them to prove that the part caused the failure, in the case of a warranty claim. For example, if your engine blows and they void it over the catch can, they would have to prove that the catch can caused the engine failure.)

Easiest way would be to just remove it in the case of a failure, and return that to stock, HOWEVER, it will help keep oil from going into your IM and gumming things up.

It has been a long time since I have posted. I finally got the old girl back up and running. The entire intake manifold was replaced. The Eight is purring like a kitten now. Also, my compression is perfect on all 3 banks. Other than a couple of minor cosmetic issues the car is right as rain.
