Vibration in clutch

Just got the R flash today. It seems like the engine pulls about the same as it did before, throughout the rev range. It does seem to idle smoother. I also noticed that the gas guage seems to be dropping quicker now than before the flash. I'll have to check after a whole tank - I guess it doesn't matter because there is not much I can do about it anyway. They inspected the rest of the car and found no evidence of any problem due to heat. While I was at the dealership a lady brought in her 8. She had 314 miles and it was leaking fuel from the tank. I spoke with the mechanic and he told me that the seam in her tank was deformed due to heat. He is an rx8 master mechanic and on the positive side he told me that the 8's are very reliable cars and he rarely sees them come in for anything other than "normal" problems. They didn't have the parts to fix the gas tank - they are still on order. All of their rx8's are parked in back because they cannot sell them until they get the parts to do theb recall.

I haven't had my car for very long but I have noticed two things. The first is that it seems very difficult to start out from a stop very smoothly. In addition, I seem to feel vibration through the clutch pedal when I'm shifting gears. I don't remember feeling that in the car I test drove. Does anybody else get vibration through the clutch pedal when starting or shifting through the first couple of gears?

That'd be clutch shudder, and normally isn't a problem with the RX-8 and can lead to premature clutch wear. It's possible your car was taken on a test-drive before you bought it and the clutch abused before it had properly broken-in.

If the car still has less than 12,000 miles on it, I'd make sure to mention it to the dealer and even if they can't do anything, have them make a note in your record that you complained about it early on. That way, if your clutch dies at 20,000 miles which is outside of the wear-and-tear warranty, you have a fighting chance having them replace it.

Get it checked out. I've drivin manual's for years. I find the shifting and take off very smooth and unrestricted in the 8.

I have a slight vibration in the clutch peddle when I press it and the car is moving (i.e. the clutch is disengaged under load.) The vibration tickles my foot. It is so slight, I doubt it's a problem. I saw another thread where it was described as a "gritty" feeling. I'll ask when I get the car serviced. I have 10,000 miles

It doesn't feel like clutch shudder. I think I am having a difficult time taking off because I am used to a high torque car and you really seem to have to slip the clutch a little and give it some gas to take off smoothly. It is kind of a gritty feeling. I guess I'l ask them about it when I get the rest of the recall work done.
