very little oil consumption

Do you guys find it normal that in a tank and a half of city driving (I haven't left town in over a month) that I've barely burned any oil? I topped it off today for good measure but I honestly feel like I could have gone another 2 tanks no problem.

I redline just about every drive.

no, not odd.

and you're using gtx which resists burning. try not doing that. or try changing your oil metering map.

It's not supposed to go down fast like your fuel meter.

1 quart lasts 1000 miles, so I add 1/4 quart every 250 miles. That is on the high usage side.

huh? care to elaborate?
oil is injected to lubricate, not burn off

hehe yes it burns off but that's not the purpose of oil being injected. It's to reduce friction and save the apex seals. If a lubricant can do that without burning off too fast it is actually more efficient than one that doesn't. This is assuming that his injector is putting enough in to begin with but that would be a mechanical/ECU problem and not an oil type problem.

Despite all the myths on other message boards and on the internet in general, you do not need to top off rx-8's oil every fill up, or even every other fill ups. It simply does not inject all that much oil into the rotary, hence why some people think premix is a necessity

^mazda recommends CHECKING the oil every other fill up fill up/top off when it's low.....but that's y I premix anyway to be safe incase something would go wrong....

and once you learn your car/driving habits there is no need to check the oil every other fillup I check mine about every 1000 miles and usually use about 1/4 qt if that in that 1k miles.

Mine is more like a half a quart every thousand miles. Which makes checking every thousand miles or so a pretty good fit. And with almost two quarts from full to fill, there's a big safty margin in case it happened to use more.

One little tip if you top off when it needs a half quart. I save an empty bottle so that I can decant half of a fresh quart into it. With the oil fill neck in the back and surrounded by stuff, pouring from a half-full bottle is a lot easier than from a full bottle.

If you need to add a full quart, you have waited too long and been driving at sub-optimal capacity for a long time.

It's not about "not going empty". It's about keeping the right amount of oil in there at all times, or as close to that ideal as possible.

Right, in some cases though the OMP shaft tends to wear out thus not working\engaging properly. If you think that your car is injecting way less oil than what it used to then you should check the OMP too imho. You don't really need to change the OMP. An ecu flasher\tuner or a wrench will fix that in two different ways
