vent time!

so i just introduced myself awhile back cus i just recently bought a 2006 rx8. ive had it for exactly 27 days. not even a month! an idiot from out of town decides to back up his nissan maxima without first checking his mirrors or looking behind him. and what do i hear? CRUNCH! i was like WTF?! and the guy said "well hadnt you been speeding around the corner in your little fancy sports car" and i proceeded to say, "dumbshit. i was stopped. i wasnt even sitting in my vehicle when you hit it." so i call the police to file a report and he says oh you dont need one they dont even file it they dont care. i was getting very frustrated by that point. he just kept saying lets exchange info and we can be on our way. he ended up leaving before the cops came! ughh. heres some pictures.

You let him leave? Did you write down his info? I sure hope you did, or else consider yourself screwed.

What did the cop say? That's leaving the scene of an accident. He should get arrested.

the cop was indeed lazy and didnt care but all i wanted was a police report and an incident number so i could get that info to my insurance. dont need the runaround or excuses from my insurance.

I woulda sat in front of his car and prevented him from leaving :P

I hate how cops can be so uncaring at times, it's annoying indeed.

Hope you get compensation from that ****

Yeah.. that is crazy... I've had a hit and run... and I had info... and they didn't do anything... all I got was my story on the insurance... and they counted it as a "No Fault Accident." So, at least I got no deductions on it.

That wasn't a "hit and run". It was a bump in a parking lot. Most times, parking lots are PRIVATE PROPERTY, and not under police jurisdiction for crashes, so no, the cop won't really give a darn about it. About all you can get the person for is damage to your own property, and if you already have their name and insurance information, that's all you're gonna' get out of 'em.

No chance that person would be prosecuted for a "hit and run". They exchanged information, end of story; that's a perfectly legitamate (and preferred) method of dealing with little non-injury fender benders on private (and some public, depending on your local laws) property.

Heck, in KY, all they require is for you to file a police report at the station within 24 hours of a crash. So two people can play bumper-cars, exchange information, and then go file a report at the station, and never once even have to call the police for it.

+1. I'm not aware of any state where the guy would've been legally obligated to wait for the cops to arrive for a no-injury fender bender. He gave you his name and insurance information and that's all he's required to do. A hit and run would mean he took off without providing you his insurance information.

It sucks anyway. Good luck.
