Has anyone seen a pic with UK numberplates fitted? Where do they go?

Front one goes on the 'Radiator grill' (but it isnt realy..) takes up the top 2/3rds and almost full width. IMO ruining the cars looks somewhat. check the Euro area for pics I think.

Mazda may offer Alfa style side mounting hopefully.

Or I may leave mine off. Lots of elise owners fo without to much hastle from the plod.

 

I think not having a front one is asking for trouble in these times of speed cameras and congestion charging.

I'd be tempted to go for a sticker but they are not legal.

Which work of the rear numberplate I think. but then again the lotus elise crowd remove their cats too. I think most have the front plate in the passenger footwell (together with the excuse) as sleeping policement tend to knock em off anyhow.

I seem to remember its a £30 fine for the front plate but I could be wrong.

I may try getting as short a number plate as I can and side mounting anyhow.

 

I started looking at short numberplates but they were all too expensive. There are a few RX 8??? around of course the one I want, my intitals 51R is £300k. And if I could afford that it wouldn't be on an RX8 but something with a prancing horse.

I did once consider changing my name to JME 236W just so that I would have a personalised plate.

Most of the "grille" is already blocked off.(roughly 2/3) Only the area below where the numberplate will go is actually meant for flowing cooling air.

Try RXB there are plenty left as you can see by the ones that have been snapped up by European members.

I got my new TAG in March. Now All I need is the car.

Mmmm... In Victoria Australia you cannot have Two letter and 1 number

RXB is the closest.

Also RXVIII, MYRX8, MSRX8 (MazdaSpeed RX8)

I will just keep my personal plate - coz people know me as an idiot in the freeway and get out the right line for me. (if you ever see an idiot driving a white DC2 with "SWYC" on it - that's me

I have 'M5RXB' in the UK - hadn't thought of the 'MazdaSpeed' angle ! Nice one...

I bought it to be 'M's RX8' (my name being morgan - geddit ?)

Someone did point out that with formula woman rubbish over here in the UK my plate could be 'MS RX8' (as in not mrs or miss but ms )

I like the MazdaSpeed angle though !

Here in Florida (USA) it is $29/year over the normal cost of $24 for the annual vehicle registration.

 

In Utah in the States it's only $50 to get the personal plate, and then $10 per year after that.

 

In the uk it's based on demand.

Plates that follow the standard licence layout, 2 letters (region), 2 numbers(year month), a space, three letters(unique), cost from 400 Pounds (Approx. $650) upwards.

Old style plates (pre. 2000), single letter(year), three numbers, space, three letters, are a little cheaper from 200 pounds ($320 approx) upwards.

However plates that spell meaningful words or represent common names go for auction and high demand means that these can cost in the thousands.

For example there can be only one P4 ULS plate licenced in the UK, therefore whichever Paul (Current UK population approx 60 million, that's everyone not just the Pauls) want to pay the most gets it.

However once you hav it there is no further cost.

 

As a follow on, the number plate 'A1', currently lost for some reason is said to be worth about £500,000.

Decent meaningful plates regulaly go for between £1000 and £50000.


The DVLA (who controls numberplates) sell of less meaning full ones on their website for £500-£1000 ish. Anything with fewer letters or that makes a name etc they auction.

 

In Texas, it's $40/year over and above your annual registration.

Back home in Victoria, Australia, it was a once-off fee of $250 for life, and you got an official title for the plate which could be sold, bequeathed or transferred just like any other property. I still have the title to ECCLES; might resurrect it when we retire back to Oz.
