I drive frequently in the snow here, and with snow tires it is not problem until the snow gets level with your doors do you start to have problems on steep hills but other than that I think RWD is better the FWD in the snow, though that may just be preference. I had all seasons last year and it is not even funny how much better the snow tires are.

The point of my post (which, I thought, was fairly obvious) was that there's a myth - pushed on this forum - that the RX-8 is poor in snow - winter tires or not. There are countless threads and posts discussing how bad the car is in winter, with the net result being that many now believe the 8 is a poor winter car - regardless of tire type. Let me say that again, just to make it clear: Today, many believe the RX-8 is poor in snow, no matter what kind of tires are mounted. Some think the 8 is a poor in snow because they don't realize the stock tires are summer only. Others know they're summer only but don't believe winter tires would make a big difference. And some think the 8 is poor in snow because it's RWD, and they think no RWD car can perform well in snow.
Yes, Dominion was talking about stock tires, but he implied the car is poor in snow - regardless of tire type - when he said: "If you must, Get some 17" rims with winter tires."
The phrase "If you must" suggests that taking the 8 out in snow is just a bad idea, although not quite as bad with winter tires. The takeaway of the line is that, if possible, the car should not be taken out in snow.
In fact, the 8 is fine in snow, as the editors of edmunds.com noted.

Why are you trying to start silly arguments? Let it go. You misrepresented him as perpetrating some great myth, which just wasn't what he said. His later statement should just make it clear (even to you) that your earlier interpretation was just wrong. Let it go, dude.

I think RWD is better the FWD in the snow,
I just had a few days of the 8 in the snow. I'm driving on tires that are more or less summer tires. They can be called "all season" but they also mention that they're not that good in the snow. I slid a good bit, but it wasn't anything to speak of. It was mostly the *** end getting a little squirrely around corners. I had no trouble with it, but I could see where it could be a problem if someone was going too damned fast.
I thought the car was great in the snow, especially since it's a light little sports car on summer tires.

I made it home on the Bridgestone Potenza's...
I just kept low rev's and deliberately avoided big inclines on my route home, and it was no probs.
Think I'll have to invest in another set of rims and get some winter tyres though.
Bridgestone Blizzak are a good choice, huh?

If your car has 18" wheels, get 17" winter tires and wheels. The taller narrower tire section will work better, and that size is also a lot cheaper.

). But if you do go the winter route definitely get 17" wheels and some high-profile tires.

Where I live, in New Jersey (not your old Bailiwick of Jersey), we probably only end up driving on actual snow maybe 4-5 days a year. So I buy a snow tire that's not as good in deep snow but much, much better on cold dry and wet roads, eg, the Michelin Wintersports.
