I bought the car 6 months ago, a 2004-231HP-6MT with a mileage of 40K. The car didn't seem very well mantained and used, but that's another issue.

So I'm asking you if there is possible due to engine/transmission wear that I couldn't reach a higher speed ? Also I felt a weird vibration in the engine at that RPM and I didn't want to push my luck. What is your suggestion ?

PS: I have 225/40/18 tires instead of the stock 225/45/18, but I don't think it does a big difference.

that would make a big difference at higher speed....first of all you werent going as fast as you thought because of the size of your tires....you are putting on more mileage and showing the car to go faster than it is.....second of all you are changing the handling dynamic by putting less rubber on it than it requires

I have a friend who drove an RX-8 at 140 MPH with 225/45/17 tires !

the car can defiantly do better than that ...i was driving from cali --> utah -->las vegas.... at a speed around 80-148 (kinda felt like going fast so i hit topspeed couple of times :P ) ... but at 6000 rpm on 6th gear , its 118mph ...that's how much i set my cruise control on ...gonna be going home to cali tomorrow too ...

Nah, one has nothing to do with another, and I am being serious..... The only thing that will accomplish is allowing the car to flip or roll, and they will flip, and they will roll. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. There are or were pics posted of 8's that have rolled and or flipped here somewhere. Just search.
