Wow, It went round the track faster then an elise, TT and M3, all cars I would think would be a bit quicker then the 8.

They are just not in this instance due to different drivers, conditions, and various other factors.

We do not know about the driver. Could been the same test driver for some of the cars but we can't possibly know. I heard they hired a new stig some time during their production run of the show and probably changed other times too.

It's already quite a bit lower, as are many cars on that list. There are many many times not included for some reason...

^ No doubt. But I believe its the overall package that makes this car such a hoot to drive even for a critical person like Jeremy Clarkson. Paper racers need not apply.

When you remove the exotics, the supercars & the mega dollar machines to get into the realms of reality cars.

The RX-8 is a Top-10 machine.................

A 3700 pound 5 series diesel with half the RX-8's redline tied it...hrm.

It's also 55 now, the Ascari is now #1 officially

I'm just joking around, I take no stock in those top gear times. They all happen on different days sometimes with drastically different conditions. All they do is just put a (w) if it's a wet day and assume it's only a 4 second difference which on the lap time board could be 5-10 spots. Not to mention no one really knows who the F the Stig is and if they really are different people you definetely can't compare the times fairly.

some of the cars were tracked in the rain. So some of the times are extremely unfair.

Actually you should've said " A 3700 pound 5 series diesel with half the RX-8's redline tied it and still got better mileage." But you didn't. Wasted opportunity.

No mention as to which laps were on wet conditions or what the temps were...
Obviously for entertainment consumption only.

Here's a more complete list with some quick descriptions of conditions if anyone wants to see it... Keep in mind that conditions even when not noted can play a big part in variance in lap times. For instance you'll see hear Clarkson say "it's greasy" on the track in reference to conditions make the track a little low on grip but you'll never see that noted on a list such as this. Also, they will use laps that aren't totally clean to register the final times.

I'm somewhat surprised the Audi S4 did so well compared to RX8...I've driven the B7 version and while the engine is definitely sweet, it's still a heavy understeery car with suspension tuned for sport/luxury compromise. tires are also pretty narrow for the car's weight. maybe the Euro market gets a 'better' S4 than here? (closer to our RS4)
