Took my 8 to the mountains this weekend...

It was my first big trip since I got it. Total blast, ripping around on some really twisty roads and having a good time. Got to meet up with my brother as well who is hiking the Appalachian Trail. The car did everything I asked and had plenty more to give!

I did notice one minor complaint (almost too minor to mention.) Has anyone else had problems with the gap between the seat cushions with the cloth interior? I just noticed on this trip that there's actually a small gap where the bottom and back seats meet, because papers and a thin guidebook I had kept sliding through it and falling into the back seat wells. Kind of annoying!

Hey Peregrine,
I live in Apex and I just got a Rx8 a couple of weeks ago. I can't wait to I find some time to go to the mountains with my 8, like Boone or Asheville and ride the parkway. My neighbor takes his motorcycle to this one road in the mountains that has something like 40 curves. It well known amoung motorcyclist. Do you know of this road?

The gap in the seats does have plus, it allows air to cool your backside.

could you be talking about the tail of the dragon (don't remember the highway number...29 maybe...at fontana lake), and it has a lot more than 40 curves...its something like 300+ curves in 11 miles. that road is absolutely insane, and fun. its also a very popular motorcycle run.

and i don't have a gap in my seats (cloth). out of curiosity, do you have leather or cloth?

I have the cloth interior. I'm not sure if the gap is there in the driver's seat but it definitely is in the passenger seat.

Hotsauce, yeah I took it up around Asheville and drove on the Parkway some, down past Pisgah and back, also on Highway 74A from Fairview to the Bat Cave area which has a ton of really tight curves as well, though there's some slow traffic on it from time to time. Lots of bikers on that road too. Sort of a mini Tail of the Dragon from what I understand.

There was a big rotary trip to the Tail this weekend, but I couldn't go since I had to meet my brother across the TN line.

Yeah, I've seen things fall into the back seat footwell in my 8 too...it is a little bit of a pain. They could have stiched a little net there to keep the air flow (LOL) while maintaining things in the front seat where you wanted them.

I can't wait to take my 8 on a trip...

I can't wait until I can tackle the Blue Ridge and the Dragon. Done both on my bike many times. It will be different to do it in a sportscar.

The gap is a FEATURE. I believe it's actually listed in some brochure or manual or something. It keeps crud from accumulating between the seats..

Also, it keeps fluids from pooling in your seat..

BELIEVE ME it's a nice feature

I did the tail of the gragon last year , it was nifty.

Yep the gap exists on the leather seats too. I also think it's a feature.

www.tailofthedragon.com tells you all about it. There is an Atlanta rx-8 club that goes up there sometimes. Suppose to be awesome.

The gap is designed to allow loose change to slide back onto the floorboard, so your passenger doesn't collect the change that fell out of their pocket as you were zoom-zooming them around.

I too, have heard of the Tail of the Dragon, but had always thought it to be a legend.

I'm now in Austin, TX and there are some really good roads here to let Roxy stretch her legs. Around Lake Travis the roads are quite fun.
