I brought my dad to the dealer with me last night when i was making the order for my car. Anyway, he had never really gotten a good look at one before and man he was drooling. He grabbed all the literature on the car he could while in the store and took it home to my mom. I know he wants to drive mine when I get it, but I don't know if I'll want to let go of the stick .
Anyway, he was looking at the Audi TT and the Infinity G35C but now I think this car is in his list too. And btw, my dad is 60 this year. His last car was a 98 trans am convertible, w/WS6 and ram air. He doesn't buy a lot of cars as he generally has a company car (hell, that was his company car back then too!). So don't feel like you need to grow up. Buy a car you enjoy driving and feel young again.

Maturity has to do with the way you drive, not the car you drive.

Starbucks --

I am in your age group and I purposely bought one without the spoiler. I may add one later, I am still pondering it. I am hard to buy gifts for, so its good to leave things for others to buy. I see lots of spoilers on lots of cars these days, and I am still internalizing the spoiler phenomena. I like the looks of the spoilers on the RX-8s, the spoilers on some of the other cars leave me wondering. Here are some polls I found related to spoilers:

RX-8 Forum > General Topics > RX-8 Discussion > Spoiler Poll
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ll+AND+spoiler

RX-8 Forum > Tech & Performance > RX-8 Appearance/Body Kits > Rear Spoiler/Wing Info
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ll+AND+spoiler

After reading the 2nd poll I decided to wait and maybe add it later.

Age and the RX8

I'm 72; my license plate is L[A]STFL[I]NG. A few years ago, my wife gave me a "Still Plays With Cars" T-shirt.
Mazda likes people to say the RX8 is a sports car, but it's really a Grand Tourer -- not a bad thing. The same basic setup will be turned into a pure sports car RX7 later, but Mazda started with a four-seater version because that taps a larger potential group of buyers.
I made one concession to age, buying the AT. I've always had stick shifts before, but I expect to be driving this car when I'm 80. My shifting skills had already slipped a little when I had to make the decision -- reluctantly. I don't regret it, and my wife appreciates both the smoothness and not having to shift when she spells me on long trips.

Finally... a thread for my generation! :D I just turned... uhhh... one year older than Gord and one year younger than 8-wannabe a week ago. Love my 8, and my Miata, and my other Miata -- I think the only thing that changes as you get older is the price of your toys.

I just turned 27 and I have to say that I think this is a great car for all ages. I certainly didn't buy this car to try to compete with or impress anyone. I know there are numerous cars out there that will bury the RX-8 in terms of performance, but I pretty much bought this car for its unique looks alone. Performance, HP, 0-60 times did not enter into the decision at all. Before I bought the car, I test drove the MT and AT versions and I loved both of them and would have been happy either way. I am mainly impressed with the looks/styling of the car and the comfort of the ride.

I guess my young age did show some when buying the car. I was talked into getting the 6-speed (peer pressure!) when deep down, I really wanted the automatic (and still do!). I just don't care much for driving stick. I may try to sell it soon and get an auto instead. I also got the spoiler. I don't know if age has anything to with that, but I do think the car looks better with it. I also have a preference for the bright colors. I got blue, but also love yellow and red. Perhaps that factor can be attributed to age. I don't really care for the black, silver, or grey. I do kind of like the Nordic green though.

Overall, this is just a great car and it's fun to drive. So if you plan on getting one or have one, I hope you're happy with whatever you got on the car. Show your "maturity" and get the car that you feel is right for you, regardless of what anyone else thinks. (especially if you want the AT. I know there is a lot of bashing of the AT version on this board, but if it works for you, go for it!)

I'm 46, and I don't want a 'mature' car. We have an old Audi and several SUVs for when we need to be adults. But 90% of the time, I love feeling like I'm 25 again. I drive for FUN. I also ride a sportbike that my 18yo son borrows, and he gets a kick out of telling admirers that it's his mom's bike.

I'm 32, and have always been into sports cars. Everyone that sees this car is amazed with the styling. But the balance is wonderful too. I don't know how anyone of any age couldn't be moved by looking at, or by driving this car. As far as the spoiler, I ordered a car without it or the the appearance package. I thought I would wait for the euro lip spoiler. Well my car was going to be delayed at the port for three weeks, and the dealer received one with the appearance and spoiler, and I took it. I'm really glad I did. I think it really makes the car more aggressive. Just my opinion.

Hey now, watch it!

5-0 here.

Had my share of true sports cars MG's, Austin-Healey's, Triumphs and muscle cars Roadrunners, Baracudas, Camaros, Mustangs...

The Rx8 is everything it needs to be. Well balanced, well made, comfortable and fun. I didn't have to drive it more than 5 minutes to decide to buy it.

You might be too old for the RX8 if you can't hear the redline buzzer.

And on the other side - you might be too young for the RX-8 if your stereo drowns out the redline buzzer! :D
