Tire Inflator

I really like the little gizmo! I had to break it out a week or so ago because it got cold and the TPMS light came on. But it's really nice! It has a screw-on hose connection, works fast, and seems quite rugged.

I'd like to get one just like it for my other car. Is there anywhere I can buy it (don't need the whole kit)? Or does anyone make a unit of similar quality? The ones sold in department / auto stores seem to be made rather cheaply.

Are you talking about the Mazda tire kit in the trunk? If so, you probably hosed your TPMS and your tire. You don't use it to 'just put a little more air in'...

The tire pump is in the trunk, forward on the passenger side.

If you just see two little straps there, someone else has it.

It works well, just don't use the tire-goo, it ruins the tire.

My car didn't have the kit when I bought it. I called the dealership about a replacement and they quoted me a price of about $500!

So, yeah, I sure hope that compressor is super nice and rugged and whatnot. Is it made out of gold and diamonds?

It's fine to use the 'Tire Inflation Kit' compressor, just not the self sealing "goop", to top off your tires.

Huh? I added air to fill them the recommended cold pressure because they were low. I didn't goop them.

Ive used the goop before. Had to, I had a flat at work in the winter at midnight. with no compressor (car didnt come with it). Just a can of fix-a-flat. As long as you get the tire repaired within 24 hours of use, your tires will be okay.

WHen they dismounted the tire, it just poured out like water and they hosed off the inside of the tire, patched it, good to go

Does your TPMS still work? There's a chance the tire sealant will clog the TPMS sensor, killing it. A new one is $100-120.

TireRack sells a ContiComfort Kit similar to the Mazda kit for $79.

I use it all the time too - the built-in gauge is awesome! (have to get used to converting kPa to PSI though)

I have one of the generic hardware-store types, in fact it's a combination car vacuum and tire pump! And it has worked fine for topping off tires for years -- I always use it instead bothering with service station air hoses or digging out the OEM pump. If filling a tire all the way from 0 psi, you might want to let it rest if the pumping takes more than 10 minutes. The OEM pump has just such a warning too. These are small devices doing a lot of work.

Another surprisingly effective option is a good foot-pump, though they do usually require occasional oiling to maintain a good seal. I used to use one before the cheap electric pumps became common.
