razz..i am looking at tires all one step bellow what jedi is looking at mainly becasue i do not need the extreame perforamce and i plan to buy rims with the tires shortly. I like the khumos manily because i can get he rebate and becasue i have people that reccommendt them. there are other tires that have pretty ncie looking treads but i too want a longer tread life then the stock potenzas. One side note, as a man i like to buy the best i can get not too mention the best looking and in most cases name brand (yeah they all are) work better then copy cats. any how i am getting a lot of info out of this thread but agree is should have been in the tires/wheels section (performance) but so be it. Please keep the positive comments coming.

 

one more questions, can you even get tires in 255 (rim is 8.5) or do i have to go to 265.

 

Yes, check out tire rack.

I know the 255's are available in 17"

You have to stay with certain brands when you go to unique widths from stock tires.

Then you have to choose from those available manufactures.

 

I have a tick over 15,000 miles on 245/40/18 KDW2's (they are actually called KDW NT for "new tread"). I think KDW2 is a Tire Rack thing. I haven't measured the tread depth, but they still look like brand new. I do rotate them every 5,000 miles and check pressure often. They are a little noisy but heh, what high performance tire isn't? Very satisfied with them performance wise but will probably buy something else next time just for a change.

the MXs aren't as good in the wet, but they're great on dry stuff.

& for the record, i have the toyos on the 8 now & the MXs on my M3.

 

The AVS wears down VERY quick.

 

I have Yoko's...they are awesome. Great grip and tread life. Snow doesn't seem to affect them either which is a plus.

 

Toyo T1R's. Best overall tire for what you are looking for. If you are never going to track then the RT-615's are overkill. Not to mention they do have downsides of a max performance tire of relitively quick tire wear & road noise. The Toyo T1R gives good treadwear rating (280), and very good dry (not extreme like say an RT-615) & wet traction. A better street tire that you can live with on a daily basis.

Be careful take a look at treadwear. On some very good tires (like a lot of the Yoko's) you have very low treadwear (fast wearing tires) ratings.

 

Damn this is a hard decision to make! I chatted with one of the membes of he SoCal RX Club who happens to be a tire distributor and he's recommending the BF's ove the Kuhmos. (just when I thought I was sold on the Kuhmos)

Toyos TR1's are a bit hard to find here in SoCal and aren't available from Tire Rack so I think those are out. Besides, a buddy of mine has them so I want something different so we can compare tires after 20K miles to see which held up better. (both are RX-8's)

Kuhmos get a lot of love on this forum (for the most part) but the new BF's seem to have great reviews for dry traction.
