Never fear, Jedi is here.

Any tint applied to the front windows in CA is illegal. A law enforcement officer CAN pull you over just for tint, there does not need to be any other infraction.

I have very dark tint on the front of my 8 (15%) and it's just a risk you take.

I just recently had mine done, and was told that there is a clear tint that is heat resistant but "clear" so it's legal to put on your windshield. They use it on airplane windshields to protect pilots from the heat is what I was told. I'm in AL, but I would imagine that CA would have it available too.

Mine are 35% legal for AL, and plainly dark enough...especially at night.

Hey I am new to the boards, just bought my first RX8 a month ago and am loving it. Anyway as far as the window tint goes it is an infraction. With that being said it can be cited as either a fix it ticket or as point "traffic violation." It depends on the Officer and how they interpret that particular section of the vehicle code. I also know a lot of Officers who will not make it fixable on the simple fact that they know you wont fix it. Also watch out for the CHP because they can also make the citation CHP only which means you have to have a CHP officer sign it off. Sorry about the novel but I have alot of knowledge on the subject.

you'll need to have the tint removed from the front two windows and have the vehicle inspected by your local law enforcement.
- pay ticket cost
- pay to remove the tint. (some places do it for free)
- pay "inspection fee" $10-$25 in California
- pay to retint the windows.

It's the price I'd gladly pay for:

The tint place I used will take it off, wait for you to get inspected and then put new tint on for free.

^^ Yeah, that's the deal my tint guy gave me as well.
Removing the tint from the front windows isn't all that hard, it's when they remove the rear window tint that things get scary. Some shops butcher the poor rear defroster if they're not careful.
Fortunately for us in CA, you can tint the rear windows as DARK as you want and it's perfectly legal.

Go with a real light tint and they will leave you alone.

It's a sftey hazard especially at dusk or night.

And when you hit that car you can be sued big time.

Or even put in jail if you kill a biker.

You should since you don't need to worry about fix it tickets.

So far in so cal no problems with cops about my tint, or no plate in the front. Guess not ran into any cops that felt like being a ***.

Turning your vehicle can cause you big headaches.

An insurance company can even deny liabilty of paying claims after you hit someone or found at fault if you make your vehicle unsafe.

Best case is you will be put on te insurance black list.
