I think it would be better if you could choose the coloration of your plates. I think it's Delaware where you can get black plates with white lettering. Those look decent, but the plates here in Ohio are tacky red white and blue.

3 days after switching my plates from Ohio to IL I passed a cop that was sitting in the road blocking the right turn lane.. he pulls in behind me and gives me a 'fix it' ticket for my front plate..
nobody ever said anything before that.. it was always speeding I have no clue what his problem was that day..

Hey eddieb Ive talked to several stated troopers and MPs(Military Police- I work at Aberdeen proving grounds) about this,,,
I currently run a 'bent' tag the letters and numbers still visible.
the way it was explained to me was this- You must display both front and back tags matching eachotherand your registration info, displaying the same information, MD state, same #s
-no permanent damage can be done to the tag or you must turn it in and receive another,,,,
This was told to me by a state trooper after years of not displaying one on my Toyota MR2. So I bent mine and dsplayed it in the front grill, after that no tickets... then I got my 8 and did not display it at all, started working at APG- enter MPs. The MPs having the bigger type A personality ego... The MPs gave me a really hard time like I was a terrorist or something, even threatening 'I'll catch up to you later' BS so after about a month of being harrased and giving the Mazda dealer has to recieve it form Japan story(the car was still new so it was believable,,, I told one to give the damn ticket and shut up... he didnt like that too much but the MP next to him was a fellow enthusiast(owns a modded 350Z) He made a deal with me, he said that I hadnt recieved a ticket yet because non of them werent really sure what the law was, deal was- he look into the actual law, if I was right they would stop harrasing me, if they were right I had to unbend my plate and 'display' it properly. After that no more harrasment. The law as he explained said that "no permanent damage can be done to the tag" ie cutting, cropping, another fony tag, they must be matching and they must be Maryland tags...

Soooooo ,,, my suggestion to you would be either deal with the ticet and hope that it wont be frequent maybe once every other year or so, thats what my experience was like with my MR2, or take your chance and bend it and give them that story, or display it normally and deal with the bucked tooth look

Heres my setup, I made this myself with the resources I have at work and have had several local people request it so there is deffinately insentive to mass produce them, though I have to simplify the design so I can do that...
Anyway this is it,,, it does block alot of air in the lower air dam andonce I get my SC on I may have to make anouth one for a different location,, wel see what my temps are..
what ever you do good luck ,,,,

I agree. I am personally delighted to see that, having put an end to all crime and there being no need to put resources into real law enforcement, our police departments can focus on critical matters like this.

I got pulled over a few weeks ago because a cop saw me roll down my passenger window (which was tinted). He wrote me up for illegal tint, my sunband tint strip being too long (6 inches, limit is 4), and no front plate. I wanted to ******* stab him, holy ****.
and those cops wonder why people hate cops ...

I hate cops too

the point is, laws are here so people can break them, yep, everybody breaks the law once in a while (or often)

NYPD just turn their Siren on because they wanna run red lights/get pass the traffic. Is that legal ?

Instead of "camping" at some dark corners near a Stop sign to wait for people not stopping their cars "completely", they could've use those time to go patrol around some other places ? they might be about to deter bad guys that way.

No front plates here in Arkansas

Speaking of bitch-*** cops, i got pulled over for a 30 day temporary tag just 1 week after i got my 8, he said "those things can be easily modified, i was just makin sure that you didnt change it yourself" and then he says "btw the speed limit here is 60" when i had cruise set at 64!
I think they're just jealous of our rx8's!!!!

Whenever you call a cop out and tell them they should be out catching real criminals, their favorite excuse is that more people die in traffic accidents than in burglaries/violent crime.

Which is a perfectly legitimate excuse. I can't tell you how many lives I've put at risk with my tinted windows and missing front plate. And don't even get me started on my illegal sunband, I KNOW people have died from it.

I feel obligated to tell my story on this matter .......... One day I am driving home from school, and I get pulled over by a cop. Of course I wasn't speeding or anything like that so I'm just like WTF is this??? So he rolls up to my window and says "Do you know why I pulled you over" and I go "no" and for once I was telling the truth. He goes "I pulled you over because you had no front license plate" and I tell him "the bracket is broke and I need to get it fixed" and goes "to tell you the truth I needed to get one more ticket for the day and you were an easy target" ............. I was SO pissed It was just like are you kidding me? Is that even legal to say or do something like that.

Was it slanderous, or did it 'incite individuals to riot'? If not, then police officers have the same right to a freedom of speech that the rest of us enjoy. Certainly it's unethical, and wouldn't look favorably if reported to his commanding officer, but it's not illegal.

As for the rest of the thread, I have to agree that while some tickets seem awfully nit-picky, but we're the ones who put the legislators in place. If you want to change a law, elect representatives with the cajones to repeal the law. I don't fault police officers for issuing a citation for any law on the books. It's not their fault that we (as the people) put it there. I don't have a front plate, nor do I intend to, but I acknowledge that I am breaking the law. If cited for the violation, I will admit guilt (if necessary) and pay the fine. I disagree with the law, but the inconvenience and cost of the citation isn't enough for me to pressure my lawmakers about. I'm far more concerned with repealing more invasive laws that I disagree with. With election season upon us, now is a great time to find out what your lawmakers think about the laws you take issue with, even if they're as silly as front plates.

I also don't understand the logic that allows you to "hate cops." Aren't they just ordinary people like you and I, going to work and doing their job? Further still, their job is more physically demanding than many jobs, and it involves dealing with people ALL DAY LONG for 40-50 hours a week who are NOT happy to see you, and as a matter of fact yell and swear at you on a daily basis. Why do you 'hate' someone just because they're enforcing the laws that you as a voter helped enact? Sure, corruption exists, but there are solutions to that which are much more affective than 'hating' the police.

I'm all for a sudden outbreak of reason.

And I don't understand why cops deserve some kind of break.. they CHOOSE to do that job, if its such a tough job, they can find another.. so I think they like giving people tickets for BS like no front license plate.. and thats why I don't particularly care for them or the personality of any cops that I know personally..

and good luck getting lawmakers to repeal laws like that, way too much risk that their opponent will accuse them of letting child rapists get away because he repealed the front license plate law..

It's like having a law that prohibits exhausts for being too different from factory equipment irregardless of complying with emissions and noise requirements.

I could make a ten page list of laws on the books that are enforced that exist for no reason other than because the high school dropouts I didn't vote for in the legislature can't get laid.

I know and have known cops. One that presently has and tracks a RX8 with mods. They are cool once they are off the clock. They have to present a certain attitude while doing there job and interacting with the public. It's a show of authority.
If you don't like the front plate law (it does double the cost of licensing the car after all), get all the local car clubs organized in a letter writing campaign to their local representative.

"to tell you the truth I needed to get one more ticket for the day and you were an easy target"
I have a feeling that he was just pulling your chain. Wearing a badge does not kill one's sense of humor.

Most of the cops I've encountered have been professional and courteous. They're just people doing a job. The only consistent issue I've seen is that so many people lie to them that sometimes start to think that everyone is lying.

The fact is, there are a lot of stupid little laws that we break daily.
No front license plate, tinted windows, anything stuck to your windshield (in CA) like a radar detector or GPS.

These laws a really there so a cop can find a reason to pull you over if needed, w/o saying "I pulled you over because you're a minority and therefore, probably a criminal."

In other words, they can profile, w/o profiling.

Plus, they make a good add-on when you get stopped for a real offense, and you act like a jerk.

The problem I have, is the cops that are too scared to do real police work, so they only do the fix-it ticket.

The worst of the bunch, by far, is California Highway Patrol.
They shouldn't be allowed to wear a badge. They give real cops a bad name.
CHP is just AAA w/ a badge.

We recently went to the Mazda Tri State meet.
3 RX8's driving down the highway.
I was in front, Scremn8 was 2nd, Jedi54 3rd.
Approaching a CHP guy parked on the shoulder, we slowed down to the speed limit well in time, and as we passed him, he pulled out on to the highway behind us.

(This is why I know for a fact that CHP is a joke, and they will never be real cops, and they do reverse racial profiling)

Anyways, CHP guy pulls out behind us.
1st RX8 he comes to (jedi54), see's a big Mexican (not really Mexican, think he's
from Guatemala, but in So Cal, they're all Mexican, just like in Florida they're all Cuban).
"Drive past that guy, might be trouble."

2nd RX8 he comes to (scremn8). Black guy. (He might be a really dark Cuban for
all I know, but the CHP guy won't take that chance)
"Drive past that guy, might be trouble."

3rd RX8 he comes to is me. Now, contrary to my name, I look like a average 35yr old white guy.
CHP guy thinks, "Ah, white guy, he's probably safe to stop."

So he lights me up, comes to the window and says,
"You weren't doing anything wrong, but I stopped you because you don't have a front license plate."

Please note, none of the other 8's he passed to get to me, had front plates either.
But, no worries, I did give him their info and they will be getting fix-it tickets by mail.
Why by mail, because CHP guys are afraid of really crime or confrontation.
After all, why did they go CHP instead of PD.

Do you think when that guy sat around watching CHiP's on TV in the 80's he thought,
"Hmm, maybe one day I can grow up to be CHP like Poncherello. Except, I'll just give fix-it tickets and play it safe."

chicago has two very separate group of cops. while living there i had two very different experiences and the second really made me have a lot of respect for them.

Experience 1: a guy came running past me as i was walking on oak toward michigan ave. and he had a bag in his hand. a little ways behind him a woman looked like she was trying to run after him so i dropped what i had and started chasing the guy down. i was getting pretty close as he darted into alleys and then i saw a cop and tried to flag him down. in doing so (and b/c i was just plain slower) i lost the guy and went back to the cop. he was one of the donut eating variety and said he was on his break. he wouldn't even call it in.

Experience 2: it was about 2am and we were walking back home from a bar in lincoln park. some dumbass kids jump out of a car with golf clubs in hand and hit some random woman in the head. she screams out, i dial 911 as some of them jump in the car and one of them just starts running. i **** you not, within 1 minute there were 3 unmarked cars with lights flashing that came ripping down into that street with 2 more 2 minutes behind them. the guys jumped out in plain clothes and vests, asked the basic questions, then hauled *** in the direction of the guys. i don't know if they ever picked them up but those guys were simply bad ***.

after the second experience i really had more respect for them. i still don't respect the guys in the blue uniforms but i know that when push comes to shove, those second group of guys will kick the **** out of someone to protect chicago.

it has nothing to do with front plates but chicago does have some really good cops - you just have to look really hard to find them and hope you don't actually ever need to call on them.

In Illinois there is no tint allowed on the front and front side windows. None at all. Even the natural tinting that comes from the factory. All modern cars are illegal and can be ticketed.
