When a throwout bearing is bad, you know it. It sounds like metal on metal grinding and is very distinct.

It is not uncommon to hear a little noise when there is no problem. Every car is different. On my RX-7 I have a new throwout bearing. It makes a little noise but it doesn't get my attention unless I listen for it. If the noise is loud enough that it concerns you, have it checked out. No one ever had a failure by being cautious. If it is bad and you don't have it fixed, the time and money could be much worse later. There is an old saying in stereo installation that says, "why is there never enough time to do it right but always enough time to do it again?". The same sort of thing applies here. Would it be easier to have it checked out now or after it fails? If it is good, at least you will have piece of mind.

Is your clutch engagement point changeing? If it is then have them check for lose pressure plate bolts. If it is a whirring sound then put some Red Line or Royal Purple in your tranny and diff. as this will quiet the whirring down. If it is grinding sound, keep your dealer appointment.

If it was the throw out bearing you would hear it when depressing or pressing in the clutch.

I appreciate all your input. I am keeping my appointment, and I also specified the service bulletins for the reflash, and my fluctuating a/c. I was gonna wait til netx spring, but why nto do it now. Hopefulyl next summer I won't have to run my a/c at highest setting to stay cool, and this m flash can help car run a little better. I'll expect them to say they can't find anything wrong with tranny, but at least I took it in, and that will give me some peace of mind. It ruined my day to hear that sound while cruising on freeway, then when I arrived at work, it pissed me off even more to hear that noise that I had never heard before. I'll prepare for the fact that I may have to live with it, and I'll just try and trust the dealer with whatever they tell me. Thanks again!!
