I can't really get over the gas mileage thing either. I would really like to get an RX-8, but I may get a Mini Cooper S instead. The RX-8 is a great car... but...

dude - a certain amount of any make/model are going to have problems. My guess is it will be less with an 8. My RX-7s were driven hard into the ground with well over 125k on them each. Go for it.
