I might just, sounds less like a car and more like a second wife - yes wife not gf! haha

too demanding and unreliable by the sounds of it. I dont see stories on the internet for other cars in this range ie TT having the engines replaced and recall after recall. Mazda need to get a grip.

Your making this way more complex than it is. Give it up and get the Audi.

and that poll is just engine replacement. And to make it truely valuable 100,000's of people would need to vote. Need a poll for how many times youve been to the dealer per year and have thousands and thousands of votes.

There's much more to it then simply having the engine replaced. This doesn't mean the out going engine was trashed or worthless. It's a specialized engine which won't get rebuilt or worked on at most dealers. It's easier to replace it.

Have they sold 100,000 RX-8's?

Why are you in one thread trying to get this info then while wasting everyone's time? You need to be in 100,000's of threads gathering this info according to your theory.

I've been to the dealer less then once per year.

I suggest you get on Consumer Guide/J.D. Power and Assoc. or some of the other sites/groups that specialize in reporting reliability, build quality, etc... for all makes and models to get the info you are looking for.

How often do you start your previous vehicles and then shut them off w/o going anywhere?

Your missing the point. Some people shop at the weekend shops that are only half a mile away and take there car - to you kno - get the shopping back to the house!
Engine is never warm in that time.
Just the fact that you cant move it and turn it off seems slightly retarded design to me.

I understand where your're coming from but it sounds like the car isn't for you cause your hung up on it's reliability and gas mileage. It sounds like you still don't understand the flooding issue or preventing it so you would probably be better off not having to worry about it. Right?

Your're missing the point. The engine doesn't have to be fully warmed up. If you drive any where you will at least rev to 3000 rpm more than likely so you've already eliminated the flooding potential.

I've started my car, shut it off w/o warming or even moving it and have never flooded it.

BTW, if it does flood there is a procedure to unflood it that takes maybe a couple of minutes. It's not like the car blows up if you flood it.

Nope, your still not getting me. I said i was fine with 20mpg i just wanted to know wot it was ignoring the obvioulsy bullshit ie not really gonna get 25mpg as they say. And come on, everyone wants a car to be realiable, why should i poke around to try and find out? What you just said there makes the rx8 sound very unreliable - eg

the car isn't for you cause your hung up on it's reliability and gas mileage.

So reliability and mileage are both ***** then? What other modern, decent car can you be driving along one minute, the nxt the engine just turns off - as some stories ive read?

hmm, i see, but i wasnt saying i didnt know how easily flooding is fixed - i know this what i was saying by replying to your comment was you said to me how often do you move and car then turn it off again - i gave you an example. Just trying to establish the risks - any sensible person would before spending 20 grand on something.

Maybe I worded that the wrong way. The car isn't for you if you would be constantley worried about it's reliabilty and gas mileage.

I can't talk for evey RX-8 produced or defend whatever the hell you read in "stories". All I can tell you is that my car has never failed to start. My car has never flooded. My car gets about 15 mpg city and 23 mpg highway. My car puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it.

Not often but i still don't think there should even be a CHANCE of a problem occuring, nor have i ever anticipated there would be. With an rx8? Hmm id be a bit twitchy - who knows if ill get the dodgy one or the good one like urs?

Nope. I said turn your car on and then off without going anywhere or in other words without moving it.

You said earlier in the thread that the ones with problems would be quieter or not shout as loud as the ones that are satisfied. I said not in this forum. See my point. Your gonna dwell on the negativity/problems and this is what you will remember going out of this forum. There are plenty of overwhelming compliments and good things said about this car throughout the forum have you read any of those?

What do you like about the RX-8 that would make you consider it? You answered this up above.

i have read the good things and ive experienced many first hand testing it. I just want both sides. I'm not gonna leave here and dwell on the negativity - actually coming out the end of our discussion i am overall positive about it - and just hopeful my engine works out if i buy it.

fingers crossed

I wish there was an overall ratio of the RX-8's that have had major problems verses ones that have had none for every RX-8 to provide to you and everyone else that questions this car's reliability. It would make it much easier. I can tell you that it seems this car has developed a reputation for being unreliable throughout the general public due to early gremlins and lack of knowledge on the car's engine itself and that's simply not true. You can say I'm biased but you are in an RX-8 forum some some bias is a given.

At least you are actually seeking info on it and that's a good thing. I'm sure many others will chime in but a lot won't cause they've answered similar questions time and time again throughout the years. Lots of good info in this forum so keep digging. Good luck either way.
