thinking about purchasing a new RX8. Good and bad?

I'm new to the forum and i was looking around and i heard some problems about rough idling and bad gas mileage? is the rough idling a very very noticable and serious problem and is it very common? I'm also thinking about gettin navigation, grand touring package, and the two toned interior leather. (the car will be silver and the leather will be red.) Also is there any other complaints you guys have been having? I'm also thinking about a G35, 330Ci, Mitisubishi Evo 8, and Subaru STI. Is there an aftermarket part for the back lights of the RX8? thanks in advanced.

Do a search, read some threads and get some perspective, should find the answers you need.

Just go testdrive (goodluck with the STi and EVO testdrive, they can be tricky to get), all the cars you mentioned are great cars and really the biggest deciding factor is what you are looking for in a car.

You should definitely take as many test drives as possible. You'll find more info though by just browsing previous posts as this question gets asked quite a bit and people get tired of answering.

This guy brings up some very good questions. I've personally been following this forum for about 5 months now, and I really think it's time that someone finally does a comparison between the RX-8 and the G35, STI, etc. Also, it'd be great if someone could post a comparison of the RX-8 and the 350Z!! Anyone up to that challenge?

Consumer reports compared the 8 and the 350Z, ranked the 8 considerably higher. So did others including Top Gear. It depends what you want in a car. Quarter mile times, take the 350 over the 8. Cornering speeds and family car like ride (i.e., not being abused when driving over bad roads), take the 8. Every one has different wants and needs, so you need to test drive both your self and make your own decision. For me, I needed four seats so the 350 wasn't even in the running.

Test drive them all then decide........all are nice in their own way....depends on what is most important to you....speed, handling, looks, price, gas mileage etc. Good Luck! The 8 is great....all cars have some negatives.

I also considered a G35 but had a hard time finding one with a 6 speed and the dealers were selling them at sticker when they did have one.

The G35 had great lowend grunt but did not feel quite as light and lively as the 8. Sytling wise I like them both but the 8 definately stands out.

plus car and driver did a side by side comparison of the 8 to the G35 with the 8 coming out on top - not that it really means anything but they put the 2 cars in perspective. The article is on their website www.caranddriver.com just do a search for RX-8

just came back from a test drive of the g35. It's a very nice car to tell u the truth. But....it just isn't as exciting of a car as the 8. I feel kinda unconnected with the road and the steering duzn't provide much feedback from the road. The price gap between the G and the 8 are pretty steep. so...the 8 is lookin pretty good. and the G35's stick position is very strange. It's extremely far back like almost at ur hip so not very comfy to drive. But stereo and interior and the power it puts on at low rpms is great. but i think 8 is probably gonna be the car for me.

G35 is a nice car...I almost bought it too. Every car has its pluses and minuses. The G35s have a brake issue on all models excect the coupe the comes with the Brembo brakes. Typical brake wear last about 12K miles on the G35s. Infiniti has even acknowledged the problem and has now added a brake warranty nearly 2 years after the car was released. Any brake work is now covered for 36K or 36 months retroactively for all G35 owners. Peeps that paid for brake service within that time frame are being reimbursed for their costs by Infiniti now. I've never heard of a warranty being added by a car manufacturer almost 2 years after the car has been on the road. At least Infiniti stepped-up to the plate and listened to their customers and acknowledged the unusual brake wear on the G35s.

I narrowed my buying decision down to those two cars (the RX-8 and the G35 coupe) both with 6-speeds. I drove them both and I like them both. The deciding factor for me was the comfort of the driver's seat -- the 8 is much better (at least with the power seat) and I really need that with an injured back! I prefer the 8's styling, and it has much better headlights (with HID's). Comparing what I was buying, the cost was very comparable.
