Why would you want that? Why would you want it off in the first place? It's not doing any harm, it's just there if the unexpected happens...it's a good thing, not a bad thing.

I don't know about everyone else, but if something unexpected happens and my car is on the line, I'd like to have whatever help I can get. I'm not a bad driver, but it is proven that the computer can react much quicker than a human can, and can brake individual tires to get the car back under control.

Sure it's not a guarentee, but any help counts when my $30k car is on the verge of destruction.

HEAT in the cockpit in warmer weather.
I'd like a slightly taller greenhouse - compounding the above problem.
Maybe more caster in the steering to give more road feel - coming from a BMW E36 I don't get as much steering feel from the 8.

Here's a photo of the dash from a 1983 Renault/AMC Alliance. I owned an '84. Hard to make out but the oil-level sensor is just visible in the center of the instrument cluster. It only measured the level when you put in the key and turned to "acc", since it would be insane to try to measure the oil in a running engine. But still, it was a nice feature and would be perfect for the RX-8. If it could be done for an econobox in the early 80's it shouldn't be too hard or expensive to implement for an RX-8.

That would be useful in any car, but especially in cars where the dipstick is such a PITA to deal with in a dark place. I'd pay $100 extra to have that in my cars, assuming it's accurate.

^^ It was resonably accurate, and if you went to the trouble to "calibrate" it by comparing to the actual dipstick reading at various levels, it was very accurate and consistent.

Not such a big deal for cars that might only use 1/2 quart between 7500 mile oil changes so the idea never really caught on in the general market, but this would be a sweet addition to the RX-8.

Here are some that I don't think have been mentioned:
1) Holes in the body after debadging,
2) Chrome Mazda badge on the steering wheel has so many angles it creates a terrible glare when the sun it directly overhead or to the left of the car in the afternoon/evening,
3) the rotar shaped indent on the hood also reflects the sun right into my eyes very often,
4) When the sun is overhead the multifunction screen is difficult to read because the light is reflecting off its frame (surface just below it),
5) Steering effort is way too light in the 10 to 40 mph range.

Has anyone come up with an extension for the dipstick tube and stick?

What about reprograming the power steering system?

Thank for all the info about the Rx8. Personally, I dont think these are major problems for me not to buy (actually my parents lol) the Rx8. Anyway about this whole age thing, I really dont care about who gets a car when their 16-18 if they do good for them, If i were to have one at that age i would be thankful to receive a car like that. Im 20 and my parents are buying me my Rx8 (its my second car) but I'm helping them w/ the payments, and i think i deserve this car, ive been busting my *** off at skoo to get the grades i have. Ive had my last car for 5 years and its still in good condition and i think i deserve a new Badass car. I say if ur parents can afford a car like this one, buy it. Older ppl are jus jeolous when they see young kids driving a badass car, they jus look at us n say SPOILED kids lol. (Jus Joking older ppl before you Jump On me about this comment)

My comment also didn't apply to just teenagers which I explicitly stated. Most people are going to treat their cars the same no matter what they have. You choose to daily-drive one and not pay much attention to it and have another one for fun. No matter what those two cars were you'd likely treat them the same -- one for daily-driving, one for fun that you'd take care of.

Oh, and don't try to make ignorant assumptions about how one cares for their vehicles. Anyone can make their car look great when it's hardly used. When yourRX-8 is daily-driven we'll talk. For one, I don't own an RX-8 yet, I own a Mazda6s and a Mazda3s, so yes your RX-8 will look better than my non-existant one. But I'll put my daily-drivers against your daily-drivers any day. Anyone who actually knows me knows I spend an incredible amount of time making those cars look their best almost every weekend. A time-consuming task for 2 cars driven 2000 miles a month or more. Hell I even care my detailing supplies with me on my frequent business trips in my Mazda6 so that Monday morning after driving 1000 miles the night before my car can be meticulous for the week, only to have to repeat it again 3 days later after the return trip.
um, no.

you dont understand, i dont take especial care of my 8 because its a second car, i treat it that way because its a f***ing 33,000 dollar car that is likely to be my favorite car in the whole universe. i come from a family of car enthusiasts who are **** as hell about their cars. i beat the hell out of my 7 because...well...its a beater, if it was a showroom condition series 5 TII(which i wish it was) it would get the same treatment as the 8. my 7 is just a beat up pile of steel that i learn to drive with, and to get me from point A to point B while having fun.

I don't like how the rear license plate mount is directly on the bumper, and there is no plastic chassis to at least lift it off the body slightly- like how the BMW's are.

The Mazda dealer scratched the edges of that area by putting on their frame somehow. (Deliberately?) And, when my plates arrived I realized now I cannot NOT use a license frame- otherwise the scratches will be visible.

Gayness I tell you...

No offense, but one only deserves what they EARN. If you are not paying for something, you haven't earned it. It's great that you are applying yourself at school, but are your parents paying for that as well? Not trying to be a jerk...I'm 20 as well, my parents are paying for all of college and there is a possibility that I could get an '8 in the next week or so. I don't have a car, though, and I'm paying for half of it up front, and paying my parents back every cent over the next 3 years or so. So I am in a somewhat similar situation...but NEVER say you deserve something that you haven't earned. And the older guys have every right to call you and I spoiled if we don't pay for this car. I'm grateful for my education and will be lucky as hell if I can be driving an RX8 at 20, even if I am paying for half of it up front with money I've worked for. Sorry if this sounded like I'm arguing with you, I'm not...just pleast don't say that you "deserve" something. That's bullshit. Be very grateful.

I got my rx-8 when i was 17; I am now 18 and still in high school. The car is under my dads name and his insurance but i pay the bills. DOnt see anything wrong with youngsters owning cars like these. I hate it when really old people drive cars like this, when they never tried to take the car to the limit, but to only use it for a daily commute. ( I have many older people here that i asked what kind of engine they had and more than half (4 out of 7) said i dont know but it looks nice.

What i hate about the car

Oil pressure guage
No Gas milage meter
no oil meter guage
cheap leather
iffy lumbar support seats

Just picked up the car and these are my complaints after driving it about 900 miles:

Seat bolsters are too narrow for me--I need a pillow for trips
Shifter is just a little bit farther back than I would like (the Miata has the perfect placement, for comparison)
Weird sun visors
Shiny Mazda chrome steering wheel reflects too much light, as does the hood at certain times
Center console display gets washed out at times
Handling Limits are so high they are hard to find on public roads
Compliant ride makes me forget I'm driving a sportscar
A little too quiet
Car gets too much attention
Rear seats will cause me to have to drive around group of drunks at some point
Very difficult NOT to drive the car every chance you get
