Sounds like basically exactly what you guys are saying to do in this thread for roof rattles.
What? People have talked about lubing the track, not removing the glass, checking the linkage and reprogramming the motor. What are you smoking?

I didn't have to remove anything. I just opened the sunroof, and used the straw that comes with the WD40 bottle to target the four areas mentioned in this thread. Took me two minutes.

I hope they didn't bill you for all that labor!

Same here! It'd been rattling badly for months now, so I did the fix yesterday. And today it's perfectly silent. Thanks everyone!

Cool! I can hear my brake squeal again!

can't resist... it's ky

Seriously, the problem with using wd40 for these applications is that it doesn't usually last too long. My standard lube for this type of work is a silicone "candle". Don't remember where I bought it but it lasts forever. Just rub it on. In a pinch, even a regular candle can help.

I seemed to be having that same problem.. I was drive on the interstate yesterday and my sun roof started rattling (it was closed), so I was feeling around but the only thing that made it stop was when I pushed on the rear dome fixture. Did you end up fixing it? if so what did you due?

As I far as I have read it's a loose wire near the dome light.

Take the rear dome light out and use duct tape to secure it to the roof.

It seems like every car's sunroof got rattling problems. Even my dad's E46 M3. You'd think that after years of developing sunroofs, they'd get it right!

Dealers have a technical service bulletin on sunroof rattle. Mazda's fix is to replace glides and attached pieces.
Rosenthal Mazda site has all the technical service bulletins for all mazdas.

I am now experiencing a "clink" like sound, kinda like the rolling wheels are moving around in the guide rail. This only seems to happen when the sunroof is "tilted" and when I'm turning or braking hard over rough surfaces. Will this TSB fix this problem?

There's a TSB for noise coming from the sun roof. Apparently it has something to do with one of the pins wearing down or something. The TSB says to replace the rail. I have a little bit of noise when the roof when it's first opened, then it goes away. I'll probably have it checked out in the next couple months before the warranty expires.

I just took mine this weekend for the sun roof rattle and my sun visor. After looking at me like some idiot I gave them the TBS for both problems. He said he did'nt know about the TBS on those issues. He looked thru the part that would be needed and order them. Said to give him a week . So hopefully I'll have both thing taken care off , by this weekend.

I'll let you guys know.

Also, please let us know if they mar the headliner when they do it.

I'd like to get the TSB performed on mine except I'm afraid they'll tear, crease or get grease all over the headliner.

I complained about the rattle when I went in for an oil change and expected them to simply grease it up for me. That would work on cars I have had in the past. They replaced some pin (I guess the ones mentioned above) and the motor (they said that it was not working properly). That was nice as it fixed a stutter that would sometimes happen when I opened the sunroof. I just figured that it was due to it needing lube. But, that is why I am not a mechanic. Everything was covered by warranty.

Oh... when they replaced the motor in my sunroof there was no grease or anything. They did run the screws in too far and put two nipples in my roof. They had to get the dent guy to fix them. I was not as upset as you think I would due to the fact I always got great service from them in the past. If they were not able to fix it, there might have been a different story.

Cool

I had the sun roof rattle TSB done late last year. It took the dealer over 2 weeks to get it done. They had first tried to lube the tracks but this did nothing. They then ordered the track replacement but said they got the wrong parts. When they finally managed to get the proper parts, they said that the TSB instructions were "oversimplified" and it would take a good amount of work to replace the tracks. They basically had to take the entire roof headliner apart before they could even get to the sunroof assembly. They managed to leave greasy hand prints all over the headliner and some of the A pillar covers don't seem to fit together right anymore. However they did manage to fix the sunroof rattle though.

^ agreed

That's the main reason why i'm still holding out. I've heard too many bad jobs being performed when replacing the rails.

Its getting VERY annoying lately tho, so I'm thinkin i'll be having this done soon.

If they dirty it, thats fine , as long as they clean it. I would hope they would have clean hands. { I think they are smart techs } If for some reason it ain't clean, well I'm not going anywhere. Till matter taken care of.
