haha I work for an insurance company but in Ontario auto premiums are heavily regulated. We just can't jack up our premiums even if our data says we need to.

Hmm, I'm also in Ontario...gotta watch what I say now.

But it's true, we can't go for a **** without asking Gov't. regulators for approval, meanwhile the gas companies can meet and collectively dictate what they want all their prices set at. Seems unfair doesn't it?

I notice on the pumps it shows the breakdown of how gas prices are set. they state 'only' 2% of it is profit. Wouldn't every company love to have a 2% profit year in and year out?? especially with billions in revenue?

I also drive a few miles (less than 10)when I go out to h hangout spots on weekends. My longest drive would be to visit relatives, and I can limit that as much as I want.

I agree it's sucking more and more to pay 50 buck to fill up a 15.9 gallon tank once or twice a week. But I do agree if you can afford a 30K sports car, gas cost shouldn't be your TOP concern. I'm only 25, but I learned a long time ago to just fill it up, pay the cost of the gas and go on your way. Unless mass transit reforms happen we will continue to be addicted to petroleum. Like most others here I need my car and whatever the price is I'm going to have to pay it. I personally don't buy into the whole green issue that cars are destroying the earth, global warming may or may not be a sham.

Bottom line - if you are that worried about gas prices, sell your RX8 and buy a Smart car, or something similar. If you are an informed intelligent person who did your research you already knew the gas miliage for the RX8 sucks ***.
Like I said before a $.50 increase to me is like $100 a month. We've seen about $.50 over the last two months. another $.50 by then end of the summer. That's $200 EXTRA I did not budget for. That's just necessity driving, not including trips, and leisure. If can goes up another $.50 by then end of the year which is possible putting it at about $4.50 a gallon for premium where I live, I will be at $300 more for gas. Do you see how some people are really affected?

You may not see $300 as a lot, but to some people it is a fairly large sum. Especially since at that rate increas I will pay more for gas than my car payment and my insurance combined. Sad.

I can understand your pain I drive about 60miles/day which doesn't quite compare to yours but you should really look at doing a cost analysis and see when it would actually benefit getting a much more fuel efficent car. $300 extra per month is a significant chunk of change, another car payment for some.

You might want to look at a motorcycle or used TDI Jetta as the daily commuter and save your 8 for weekends or maybe 1 work day per week.

I can't realisticaly get out of my car w/o ending up worse off financially even with better gas mileage. I think you have to tackle the problem at it's root, which is the distance. That I am working on. Main distance: my house to work. My choice of city isn't going to change..hopefully.

There was a time before fathers day this year when i paid (and cried)about the price of smokes.now that i have quit smoking i have more cash for gas!that was 20-27 bucks a week that went up in smoke.because i quit that now i can burn the gas up in smokless air!priceless!when the price gets to $6 a gallon like overseas it's time to rethink my directives on what i will be driving!

They luckily won't be on the road.

Hey, I drive around 800-900 miles a week just for work (not including personal driving). You don't see me whining about gas prices. I do bitch bout traffic, and lame *** drivers though.

But if you can't afford it, get the **** off the road and stop bitching 'bout it. Gas is still cheaper in the states than 90% of anywhere else in the world.

So those poor people you are worrying about make it to work or drive just fine everywhere else in the world where gas is equal to $5 a gallon or even $10 a gallon. Why should it matter here?

Next thing you know people will be bitching that 12 oz of bottled water costs as much as a half gallon of gas.

You want people who are barely getting by to stop working because they rely on their car to do their work/get to work? People who are on a tight budget should just 'get the **** off the road' because of the financial burden the increased gas prices gives them? Yea makes total sense

Does anyone remember the last gas shortage??? It wasn't the gas prices that hurt so much, it was the cost of living,,,, Can we say inflation?

When people start loosing your jobs, that is when it will hurt..

We have already exceeded the previous peak of 1980 in inflation adjusted terms.

I love all the oblivious elitist ******** on here who really don't get it. I know it's hard for you morons, but try to look at the bigger picture before you spew out your "I don't give a ****" one liners. This isn't about the extra 8 - 10 bucks you'll be paying for gas every time you fill up. This is about the entire economy taking it up the *** in the long run.

My income is reliant on something that is a luxury for most people. When the pocket books get a little tighter people don't go out to restaurants as much and they don't buy expensive wine. The beer and liquor guys may not feel it, but I do. My numbers and income is down a little from last year at this same time period. It's nothing major and it adds up to me not putting as much money in savings and passing one something that I want here and there, but I can imagine that there are a heck of a lot of people out there that are just getting by that are feeling it in a much bigger way than I am.

Throw in the towel. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
Put some decent oil stocks in your portfolio to offset rising prices.

How does this affect just Rx8 owners?

We don't use fuel any quicker than we used to..

It just costs us and EVERYONE ELSE a tad more to fill up.

Theres no difference between the MX5 and RX8 (except that you and all other male Miata owners have sex with men) at the pump. Our cars drive the same. They get the same miles per gallon. We go to the gas stations just as often as we used to.

The price increases are the same for all of us. I don't get you...

Like, at all...

maybe we should go back to the good old days and actually revolt......violently if needed instead of just bending over, grabbing our ankles, and taking it up the *** by the Big Oil bastards (and politicians). just a thought.
