I'm lucky. Subway's my main transportation, so I drive mostly on weekends, for fun, filling up about twice a month. (The subway is $76/month.) So… 26 gallons/month @ $4/gallon = $104, vs. 26 gallons @ $3.50 = $91.

That's an extra $13 a month. One less martini (with tip).

To have a miata driver make himself feel better about his car while riding on rx8 owners because we don't get as good of gas mileage. I think that's about it.

I think for most people it doesn't hurt as bad as they make it out to be. The price increase for the average person might be $20 a month. For some it smore just depending on how much you drive. I drive 100+ miles a day. The price increase is a big affect on me. A $0.50 increase for me is $75-$100 a month. Which is alot, but it shouldn't be then end of the world for me. It's just something you have to include in your budget.

I can't wait till gas gets to $5 or $6 a gallon. Then finally the traffic congestion will go down.

Accidents will go down (fewer retired, poor people in their 1986 hondas and GMs, and fewer kids driving as they won't be able to afford the gas).

More people will use public transpo so smog and pollution will go down.

All positives... I hope gas gets to $5 a gallon soon!

Seeing as how you live in Cali you might get your wish. I for one would prefer cheap gas.

I agree with most of that except the public transportation part. A large portion of where I'm from doesn't offer public transportation, so some people are screwed.

What if the same poor people you're referring to rely on their vehicles to make a living or to get to their job?

Gas is 41 cents a gallon in Iran, 12 cents a gallon in Venezuela and I think 29 cents a gallon in the UAE. I know where I'm moving when I buy my 8-mpg-freeway Bugatti.

I work in the oil and gas industry - lease aquisition, and title research for a large energy company up north. Although our interest is more in natural gas then liquid petroleum.

I agree it's sucking more and more to pay 50 buck to fill up a 15.9 gallon tank once or twice a week. But I do agree if you can afford a 30K sports car, gas cost shouldn't be your TOP concern. I'm only 25, but I learned a long time ago to just fill it up, pay the cost of the gas and go on your way. Unless mass transit reforms happen we will continue to be addicted to petroleum. Like most others here I need my car and whatever the price is I'm going to have to pay it. I personally don't buy into the whole green issue that cars are destroying the earth, global warming may or may not be a sham.

Bottom line - if you are that worried about gas prices, sell your RX8 and buy a Smart car, or something similar. If you are an informed intelligent person who did your research you already knew the gas miliage for the RX8 sucks ***.

I work in the insurance industry...so we're both bastards!

Call a spade a spade, the oil industry deserves the grief their getting, there is no greater example of corporate greed, industry collusion and political interference. Too bad today's culture is so freak'n passive, just bending over for one screw job after another.

Mileage and the price of gas are two different things though. So you're saying if it goes up to $10/gallon we should be ok with it cuz we know our cars use more gas than others? That doesn't make sense. So fuel efficient car owners wouldn't have a problem with $10/gallon!?!
