Stupid Dealer

I filled out a couple of requests for a price quote online, and today I got a call from a "internet manager" of a dealer in RI (which shall remain unnamed). On the phone he asked me what kind of 8 I wanted, color, package, etc..., and I told him I want a new 05 either a velocity red or titanium gray, and one with a sunroof.

20 minutes later he calls me back saying "I just got some important news from the lot manager and he told me that since these cars have suicide doors, ones with the sunroof are not recommended because it is not structurally stable and they have a lot of cabin noise." He then tells me that he did not have any 8 with a sunroof in their lot, but if I came in to the dealer, they would help me find one.

I couldn't help myself so I started laughing and after a long pause, I just told him "you know what I really don't think you know what you 're talking about" and I hung up the phone.

Good for you! It's amazing what some salespersons think they can get away with. I guess most of their customers are clueless about what they are trying to purchase and believe whatever they're told. Obviously, you will find another dealer.

That's too funny. Back in November my mom had her 2000 MPV in for servicing and whatnot and we were looking at getting a new 05 Tribute possibly (this was at a different dealership than she was getting service). Well, we had been there on a Tuesday night until they closed at 9 p.m. They had six 05 Tributes on the lot. Well, bright and early the next morning my mom had me call and ask if their $6000 dealer discount was off MSRP or the extremely marked up sticker price because they never did explain that when we were looking at it. I called about 15 minutes after they opened to ask. They guy told me it was off the MSRP, and then the funny part. "Good news! We only have one left and it is marked down to a final price of $16,599!" I said "Wow, you must be having a great morning!" He asked me how come and I said "Well, at closing yesterday there were six of them and you've already sold five in the first 15 minutes you opened!" He kind of mumbled a bunch of stuff I couldn't understand and then told me to come in and ask for a particular person to get his special deal.

Ha, there's a sucker born every minute.

Me, on the other hand, while I agreed to pay sticker price, I made sure my dealer threw in brake light fluid and free air for all four tires.

Who's the sucker now!!!!???!!!???

I got the extended warranty for the air. It was only another $125 if I paid the $145 for the window etching.
