Hit a deer.... and no damage!

Well, today has already been one of mixed emotions. Hit a 6-point buck on the way to work Luckily, I was already breaking and he turned away at the last moment, but still impacted on my driver's side front corner. Decided to wait and check out the damage when I got to work. I parked under a light so I could see well - there was NO damage! Not even a scratch or a crack on the headlight. A buddy looked at it just to make sure I wasn't in denial and he thought I was joking about hitting a deer.
So, evidently, the body materials used by Mazda are pretty good at withstanding impacts.

Long story short the little ****** did 2000 dollars worth of damage (cracked front piece, cracked air damn, and fucked up the A/C condenser unit, oh yeah and I got a spiffy Crown Victoria Rental for a week.

only had to pay for 500 of it though b/c of insurance

My dad hit a small doe at 30mph in my rx8 2 weeks after we got it. $2200 worth of damage for a new bumper cover, pass headlamp, fog lap, oil cooler, mounting hardware, etc.

wow... what speed were you at when you hit the deer? Amazing to know that the car has no damage on it.

Cool!!! No damage. About two weeks ago I was driving my coworkers Mazda3 home after training (don't have my car yet) and a few miles from my house are these really sharp, winding curves (tree lined road in the country) that every one calls the "S curves" which it has about three S shapes before you are out of them. Well, when I was giing around the third one (can't see at all what is on the other side of the curves) there was a buck standing in the middle of the road. I hit the brakes and stopped what looked like just inches from the deer. He was so close I was totally surpised I didn't hit him. Well, he stood there, bent his head down a little and tipped it at an angle a little and looked at us like "What's your problem?" and then proceeded to finish walking across the road and out into the field and into the trees. There are are several feet of tire marks on the road now. Fortunately I was only going 30-35 or I probably would have hit him.

I think Kevin is probably not going to let me drive his car anymore. LOL

I almost hit a deer with the Beetle - the only damage was a $2 plastic cup underneath it. At 80mph.

Admittedly, the deer was already dead and lying in the road after a blind bend.

A few miles later, I found the person that hit it - unless it was a co-incidence and the old Ford Fiesta with a smashed front and one headlight just happened to be driving VERY slowly home too...

oh man...if only Cool-Blue-Dad could have had the same experience as you...

That's awesome that you didn't sustain any damage to you car! Were you almost at a complete stop when you finally hit the deer?

I honestly don't remember how fast I was going when I hit it; I was in the process of breaking, but I'm guessing about 35 mph or so. I knocked the deer on its ***, but it got up and ran away, so I guess he's okay too. I think I can attribute the lack of damage to a combination of breaking and the buck turning away at the last second, so basically my left front corner hit his torso. With this kind of luck, I guess I should have bought a lottery ticket today!
