Well the shop says its totaled but the adjuster still has to total up the expense before they say anything. I would assume.

Called the shop today, they said the damage is estimated 8K before labor is factored in. They are going to call my insurance and ask how much they value my car at and from there they will see what happens.

wow, only $8000? i think they might be underestimating what all is damaged there... i would definitely guess more than $8k in parts. good luck either way. personally, i don't think i would want a car that has been that heavily damaged.

$8,000 before labor?
yeah, that's totalled.

labor is usually the more expensive of the two

they also said it they haven't really taken it apart completely to see the more extensive damage. I guess they figured with that much tallied already the insurance would say its totaled.

probably why they didnt bother the insurance wont pay 8k in parts unless the car is worth well over 50k

Hmm.. I don't think my 8 was as bad as yours but mine wasn't totaled.

https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discussion-3/so-i-crashed-my-8-a-177793/

Parts & labor was $12k.

i would buy it back from the company.. you could get parts fairly cheap to replace everything.. main thing would be the intake and oil coolers to get it running right? get a carbon hood for a few hundred.. get a bumper from ebay for about 100 headlights aren't too expensive on ebay, and new fenders from ebay and then you would be good to go.. if totaled you should have enough money to buy it back from the insurance company and enough to fix it possibly...

Ah, didn't take that into consideration. It won't be worth as much as mine because of the year & miles. And $8k w/o labor does seem high, especially for an 04. I mean, did the airbags deploy? Because of they did it's a total.

Airbags would of deployed if it wasnt crushed on impact turning everying electrical off. Now that i think about it the battery locations is in a pretty bad place.

Alright the shop called me, they gave my insurance the estimate and my insurance has officially considered it totaled. My insurance will call me next week around Tuesday or Wednesday with an offer.

So i got a call from the insurance company, they ran the numbers and the pay off will only be $10,600. Seems a little low i did mention to him that i had a new engine installed and it only has 9k miles on it. The agent said to fax over the receipts and they will see if the value goes up. So i will do that tomorrow.

so do you own the car or did you still have a lein on it? if it is 10.6k after paying off the lein, then that is one thing but if they are only saying the car is worth 10.6k then they are nuts. i would say you should at least get 14-15k.

yeah, but i believe they should go by retail value:
http://www.nadaguides.com/usedcars.a...da=-1&mi=10000

from my quick run up, a sport trim package with 10k miles should get about $15,137.

my 2007 was totaled by my insurance company and i got the full retail value, not the trade in.
