To the original poster: don't get yourself too down over what happened. Yes it was a dumb mistake and it sucks. Sometimes that's what it takes to learn. Its certainly something that is very serious and the legal ramifications are honestly going to suck depending on what state you're in. DUI's are a serious business.
That being said, its not the end of the world. Believe it or not, more people have made this same mistake than we might realize. Its time to learn from your mistake.
For some people, something like this can really shatter one's idea of who they are, and it can really mess up one's perspective of life. Just keep in mind that in the long run, this is really not that bad. You're still alive and unhurt, and no one else got hurt, and things will eventually go back to normal for you after the legal ramifications run their course. Just stay nice and straight for a while.
Also: learn what understeer is.

i knew that by posting what had happened i would get a lot of negative comments and judgement from people. I chose to share my experience in the hopes that maybe, just maybe someone somewhere can learn from this. Unfortunatley, sometimes people need something drastic to happen to change. This was my change. I definitley will never do that again, and this has totally changed my outlook on life. I was so close to death, but yet walked away with a few bumps and scratches. I really do think that things happen for a reason.....
Anyway thanks to all those with positive feed back, i really do appreciate it. I thank God everyday now, for giving me a second chance, and that no one was hurt.

From now on it's your responsability to make shure none of your friends make the same mistakes you did. You where given a second chance. USE IT WELL.
Take their keys away if they are impared and want to drive, they might get mad, but they will live to get over it. And share your experience.
And never, ever, ever,ever do that again once you got lucky, twice, you deserve the cliff.

Here's Tantalus. For some reason, I cannot make it any bigger, and stay within 100kb. Basically, a big loop; oneside goes up, the other goes down. Even a ridgetop that isn't wide enough for two cars to pass.

Well, I just have to disagree. While there are lots of teenagers who should not have an RX-8, I don't buy the notion that there are none who are mature and responsible enough for it. I remember my own youth; I didn't drink or do drugs or get into any kind of trouble (still don't). Nor did any of my friends. Any one of us could've had an 8 without it significantly increasing our risks. I mean, let's face it, you can get into trouble with pretty much any car. I think you have to consider these things on a case-by-case basis.

Try telling a teenager that they have an actual organic reason for being unable to process higher functions about fear and reason and they'll sputter stuff...like...umm...WHATEVER.

I know it sounds stupid but this **** happens all the time. I personally have not taken rides even with my best friend because he was drunk, and eventhough another close friend of ours had a DUI, went through hell and back (never did it again as well) my friend still drinks and drives.. I don't understand it, but like the original poster he has to learn from his mistakes. Even if that mistake costs 50,000 (wait until you see the lawyer fees). But this guy still had the courage to come and spill his guts, yes we are all strangers to him but it's still a hard thing to do. And he did this hoping that some other teen, young man, old man, women whoever is reading will take his little story to heart and reconsider sitting in that car while drunk or in the company of a drunk person. To me if that SAVES 1 life then I have no reason to hate on this guy
And yes if he took a life he would yet again pay for that mistake dearly. Trust me, I know what this guy is going through, and all of the quick jabs you take at him is pale in comparison with what he's about to experience.. At least try and give him advice that will help him, not drive him to suicide..

Just baffles me that people still start their engine after drinking. I'm 19. I do stupid things all the time, sometimes in the car. Driving under the influence has and will NEVER be one of them. However, I dare anyone to say they haven't done something they live to regret while they were having fun or caught up in the moment. Everyone is young some time, stupid antics are part of the package. Drunk driving is just not a forgivable "antic".

yea, you really want to learn your lesson ... become the designated driver for your friends.
you will be fighting the DUI for a year or so (and a lot of money too). take this experience, learn from it, and TELL YOUR FRIENDS.
of course we all make mistakes, the best way to never make this mistake again is to think ahead. plan for who is driving home BEFORE you go out. rotate the responsibility around and you will ALL be safe.
