I doubt that this was a Canadian dealer. The posting was on the Yahoo! Groups list.
And those are mainly people in the USA.
Canadian dealers are still way behind orders on the RX-8.
With a total Canadian 2003 allocation supposed at 700 cars, and only about 2/3 of those delivered to dealers so far, the RX-8 is still a pretty rare beast up here. For example in Edmonton or Calgary,both cities of around a million, there are still roughly 10 cars in each city.

If ANYONE can find me an RX-8 for 2500 below MSRP, I will pay you 1500 dollars.. heh heh. about 45 on the lot. That is a joke. I have seen no more than 2 at a time at my dealer. All others are pre-sold.

 

You're in Cali, it's going to be in higher demand there compared to most states.

Then how about Colorado? We have snowy winters too, yet RX-8s are relatively hard to come by. My closest dealer has two, both GTs and doesn't have an open order slot until after the first of the year. The biggest dealer in the area has five - all above MSRP. The local "AutoNation" dealer has theirs all priced at a "no haggle price" of MSRP + $3K.

The RX-8 is also a somewhat unique vehicle in that I wouldn't buy one off the lot - things like the port spare tire option cost significantly more if added at the dealer (you get to pay for the mount/wheel and tire separately in the latter case), so why not order one?

 

Tustin Mazda in Orange County may be ready to deal. Just drove by today, and not only do they have a ton of RX-8's on the lot (front and back), they've put those annoying windshield stickers on the car. "But it now!" and "Hot car!" etc. in multi-colored cartoonish letters. I'll bet they need to move them... Unless they're expecting to sell a ton when Sevenstock comes to town...

I know down here in Austin Texas they have at least 10 - 15 on either or the 3 dealerships I have been to. They sometimes say they don't and that they are selling like hotcakes but I still seem to see a bunch of the same ones. Mazda has seemed to flood the market with the car. I am not saying that having an ample supply is a bad thing and I believe they will eventually sale them but I think they are definately not following what Honda did with the S2000 where you had to order one and wait months for it to come in. That kept demand hi but supply low. I like the fact that I can actually go out and test drive the RX-8. I have not gotten a quote for one yet but I know they will sale them less then MSRP or they are being stupid! Each month the car sets at the dealership they pay a tax on the car as with any inventory.

 

What was the point of all of this anyway canzoomer? Do you have nothing better to do with your time than hang around an RX-8 board and make negative posts non-stop?

I still think part of it is that people don't know much or heard or seen the car yet! Once they do, they drive it and see all the cool features they will buy it. My dealer has 6 of them. I finally drove the automatic lastnight. Hubby thought it was ok.....he expected more power and to me it had plenty. It does take a few seconds to get to the power you are looking for and that may be the complaint. Once the power kicks in....woohoo it;s a blast and the handling is superb! I am still buying it boys!!

 

Tustin Mazda was trying to rape people on price...I called them back in late June and they said "give us a $500 deposit and we can reserve one for you at only $2,500 over MSRP." I told them to pound sand and a month later walked in and bought from Irvine Mazda at MSRP for a car that was "at the port." It took me two weeks after that to actually get the car.

I agree with many on the thread that prices have got to come down. Several of my friends have asked if I was going to take the buyback offer and then go get another one below MSRP. All I know is that I am driving this thing like a stole it (to quote someone or some song) and will make a decision in the next two weeks.

Oh, I drove a 540 6-sp yesterday--tons of power (it really is making what they advertise), but the throws on the stick were so long I thought I was rowing a frigging boat! I can't deny loving the short throws of the 8's stick!

<p>As I see it, it was Mazda's strategy from the very beginning to make RX-8 an
affordable practical sport car appealing to relatively wide public (hence - four
doors and four seats, no turbo etc.) . Cars of this type ought to be on the
dealership lots. Mazda is not going to limit production of RX-8, like Ferrary
does, in order to maintain an absurd margin. Therefore the fact that the cars
are available indicates nothing. Besides, look at what is happening with other
similar cars: Z350, Infinity G35C, EVO etc. Do you see a lot of those on the
roads? And their production started much earlier.</p>
<p>In general, regardless of the car merits, I do not think that RX-8 will ever
be sold in numbers close to those of Eclipse, Mustang (cheaper version) and
others in the 15K to 22K range.</p>
<p>On a practical note, I visited Mazda Gallery dealership in MA a few days ago
(Route 1, Norwood) and they did have about 6 RX-8 cars, mostly black ones. I was
immediately offered GT version for $200 below MSRP and a salesperson was willing
to go lower.</p>

 

Mazda's big advertising push starts on Monday night football on Sept. 15. Last Night. You will start seeing more and more of them.

Here in TN, I have been looking at the RX-8. I have had two seperate salesmen at two seperate dealerships offer to take $500 and $750, respectively, off of the car BEFORE I even started negotiating. I would anticipate that I could get one at least $1000 under MSRP with a little persuasion.

Just a hint guys: If you call a dealership and say "Hey, what kind of disounts are you willing to give me on a new RX-8?" no salesman in his right mind would do anything less than tell you "none". If they were smart, they would tell you how hot the car is and how fast they are selling. They would tell you that they only had a few that weren't spoken for and that you had better hurry down with your checkbook to get yours TODAY!!!!! Most dealers won't quote you a real price over the phone, they want to get you "in the box" before they start dealing.

 

Question I have, why would they offer to knock anything off MSRP before you even negotiated with them? Maybe a "lowball" offer just to get you in the door. Plus, you don't yet know what they will try to make on the "back end" of the deal.

Uh, Yeah.....actually I see lots and lots of all of these cars you mentioned on the roads. But NEVER any more than 2 or 3 at the dealerships.

 

here I have seen probably 10 z cars locally, 1-2 Evos and 2 G35 coupes (both in my neighborhood) there are 3 RX8's that I have seen on the road.

Mostly SUV and truck people.

 

$2500 off MSRP of a Rx-8 GT seems a bit unbelievable, but ...
I paid $800 below MSRP at the end of August for my silver sunlight GT. I just sent in my letter for the $500 debit card and I've getting the 4 yrs of free maintenance, which I would guess is worth >$1000. (I called Mazda and supposedly I'm getting all the maintenance listed in schedule 1.)

$800 + $500 + $1000 = $2300. Wahoo!!!

I'm not seeing any of the power or gas mileage issues that some people are seeing so I'm pretty happy at this point in time.

Since summer is rapidly ending in my part of the country, I'm guessing getting $400-$1000 off MSRP might not be too hard. I can't believe many RX-8s will be sold when the snow starts flying so dealers will start to lower prices. Also with the Mazda S-Plan for employees and suppliers probably kicking in next year, people may start to get discounts of 4-6% off MSRP early next year anyway.

At the local dealership in Richmond, I saw at least 8 on the lot.

When the Z came out, I did not see any at the dealerships around here for a long time. It wasn't until the past two months since I've been seeing them more.

I really don't mind, and in fact I hope they do overproduce so I can get one dirt cheap.

No car is a good investment.

I picked up my car in July. Paid $400 under and got the rebate and service card, no dealer fees at all.

I am happy with that. Yes, if I waited until now, I would have it for about $1000 - $1200 off MSRP -- but I have been driving it for 3000 miles and got the service and debit card.

The below MSRP deals I have seen are not a bad omen at all -- the same thing happened for big-time cars like the Z3/TT/Boxster/911/Z4/350Z/H2/MINI etc.

Bottom line: The car is worth +/- $30 grand. try to get the best deal you can -- no knock on the car at all (based on availability, weather, economy, etc)
