And so it begins..

It appears that now Mazda is catching up with demand.
As posted today on the Yahoo! RX-8 forum:

"Am looking at getting a red w/ grand touring... Dealership is
willing to take $2500 off the MSRP - it that a good deal? They have about 45 of them - in all the colors.

thanks in advance. Any options I should make sure and get and/or stay away from?"

I am betting on $4G below MSRP by Christmas..

CarEnthusiast 09-14-2003 08:34 PM

Catching up with demand? or is Mazda desperate to attract buyers?

$2500 off MSRP so soon signals something and it doesnt look good.

Ike 09-14-2003 08:38 PM

2 weeks after delivery there were no less than 5 at every Mazda dealer I saw (3 of them). In addition when I said I wouldn't pay MSRP if I wanted the car, they didn't seem firm on it and the sales guy contacted me with a quote below MSRP the following week, and they still had 5 of 6 of their original RX-8s plus some.

Actually I ltook a trip over to that thread.

1) I do not believe they had that many on the lot

2) I do not believe That it is a real post

3) I have three mazda dealerships in a 20 mile radius of my house. They have 2-5 on lot at any givin time, they move them every 2 weeks (so they are selling 2-5 evey 2 weeks)

4) canzoomer, give it a rest!! This is beneath you.

Ah, the desperate sound of denial..

I can just picture that vein on your forehead pulsing..

DUM-dum...DUM-dum...DUM-dum...

Mazduh..MazduH..MazdUH..MazDUH!!

Sorry, I couldnt resist..

Maple shade mazda in NJ claims they have 93 in stock to choose from. I sense some major discounting.

I've also only seen 1 RX-8 in the princeton area.

CruelNewb 09-14-2003 09:46 PM

Hey canzoom what dealer is selling 2500 below msrp. I'll call them and prove you are right. I might buy one from them too.

canzoomer 09-14-2003 09:57 PM

I just posted to the YahooRX-8 group asking that person this very question!

I will post what replies I get..

Keep dreaming. Mazda has not even advertised on TV yet.

Ike 09-14-2003 10:16 PM

Just saw 3 commercials tonight.

Must be new, I have not seen any yet. I doubt there will be incentives unless the advertising does not sell these things. Hopefully the dealers stop the add on "premium" to the sticker.

actually the web site says "rx-8 now in stock and on the next line it says 93 to choose from". the catch is not all 93 are in stock. they've been saying that for over a month now. i ordered my 8 from them and i asked them about that too a month ago and they said it was up to the marketing department to word it that way.

I know of a few dealers that have secondary storage facilities, and I bet that 93 reflects what they have coming in soon as well...

iamcanadian 09-14-2003 11:11 PM

This definitely does NOT apply here in Canada where dealers are still desperate to get their hands on any rx8 they possibly can. To date some 500 of the 700 for the year have arrived. I am sure that by next spring people can expect to get them below MSRP here too but not any time before that.

trust me they don't have 93 in stock. it was a marketing ploy. i call there almost daily to ask where my car is. when i call and ask for my salesperson without giving my name he answers by saying hi Rob. he knows it's me. lol

rx7 rage 09-15-2003 12:28 AM

I see 5 rx8s outside at both SD mazda dealers...so i'm wondering, is this car really selling???

I have a friend that works at Cush Mazda and she says they cycle out pretty quick but keep the most popular colors, I also drive by John Hine Mazda many times a week and it seems as if they had they same cars usually but ive noticed a few rotating out and I know they keep doubles of popular colors but only keep 1 in front usually.

Ive talked to both dealers and they said they are both selling well and everytime i goto either dealer people are looking at the 8, and since Mazda isnt a top car brand as it where tons of people will be on the lot anyway it shows how attracted people are to this car.

My cousin in Miami has seen quite a few of them on the road now. Here in NY I havenlt seen any (except 2 at the Jersey SHore) In Ca they seem hot. I would bet Regional Differences will account for what the dealers are moving and what kind of deals they make.

aussie77 09-15-2003 08:02 AM

They seem to be moving well in Atlanta. I went by one dealership about a week before I bought my car and saw a Titanium with GT package, exactly what I was looking for. The salesman there tried to interest me in it but I wasn't buying that day regardless. I called back later that same day and it was gone :P

Likewise the dealership I actually bought from actually seems to have 2-5 in stock at any time, as they are moving off the lot. Funny thing was, they sold a Winning Blue to a salesman at the Nissan lot right next to them! Guess he didn't like that Z too much ;)

BillK 09-15-2003 08:22 AM

Wow - someone should send some cars to Denver!

Most dealers here have two or three at most and of course all of those are GTs.

I've also yet to see Winning Blue at all...

kidtexas 09-15-2003 08:28 AM

When I bought my Mini a year ago, the dealer always had 15-25 cars on the lot, even thought there was an 8 month waiting list at that point. All of these cars were sold - they were just out for display. Now a year later, when I'm sure the wait on one of these cars is short, there are none on the lot at all.

success07 09-15-2003 09:21 AM

Here in Columbus, Oh., there are two dealerships to choose from and both have a decent supply (roughly 7 each and I've seen all colors), which actually shocks me a little bit. I am extremely excited for mine to roll in (due sometime late Sept.) and I thought that there would be more folks just as myself but apparently not.

One reason for the supply may be that there hasn't been any tv commercials here for the 8 yet. Plenty in magazines but that's about it. Who knows but I think that the more people see it the more likely they will be to buy it. Mazda as hit the nail on the head with their colors. All are distinctive and much better in person. I've only seen one around Columbus and it went right past my neighborhood of all places!

I don't know about all the talk involving the heavy discounts but I would hope to get something reasonable below MSRP. A thread earlier shows the dealer invoice sheets so that will assist me somewhat but we'll wait and see.

I just dropped my car off for oil change, and some minor issues and adjustments. I have confirmed that maple shade mazda has 12 cars, between two lots, 6 cars on each lot.

The place is only 5 miles from my office!
'
If only I could debunk all the other rumers as easily!

You guys must not watch much football :) They've been airing the crap out of the ads during the games since last week (week 1).
