snow tires..r they worth it???
OK so i've come to realize that the rx8 is horrible in the snow...i literally slide all ova the road if theres snow on it....for once the rx8 is the slowest car on the road ....
But anyways getting to the point, are snow tires really worth it?? do they make that much of a difference...??

OK, you're new, so we'll forgive you just this one time...
There are plenty of topics discussing EXACTLY this subject, including a sticky thread at the top of this section of the forum!!! A quick search for 'snow tires' or 'winter tires' will turn up a dozen or more relevant threads, with plenty of forum members contributing their experiences with their RX-8s on summer tires (they SUCK) and on winter tires (they're GREAT)!
In short - snow tires are absolutely worth it, they make a HUGE difference. With proper winter tires, the RX-8 can handle most any conditions confidently, especially with the DSC, ABS, and TC to help out. It really does come down to the tires - high performance summer tires, on ANY vehicle, are useless in snow, so the fact that high performance summer tires are useless on an RX-8 should be no surprise.
With the summer tires, it will be sooner rather than later WHEN you hit something (not IF, WHEN), like a curb, guard rail, or another vehicle. With winter tires, that is far, far less likely. What's cheaper, bodywork and suspension repairs, or winter tires?
Please do a search for 'winter tires', and read the threads - they discuss in extensive detail appropriate winter tires and wheels options. If you want a shortcut - go to www.TireRack.com , and buy one of their RX-8 winter packages, ASAP.
Regards,
Gordon

In Atlanta maybe I'd consider parking the car when it snows and finding another way to work if you don't think you'll "benefit" from snows.
But it's *all* about tires. There was a Car and Driver column from the editor once about a AWD Audi TT. With the high-performance tires, it was useless, even with AWD! With snows, it was unstoppable.
