Slightly rough idle

Do any of you guys ever have a few rpm dips (maybe from 800 into 700 range) and a slight shutter when it happens? It never stalls out or anything but I still don't like it - esp in this cold weather. especially with all this engine failure talk and stuff.

Could be normal. Go to a local club meet.

I would clean the MAF.

Then if it is still there look for a vaccum leak.

The plugs foul over time because the car is too rich

it is pretty common for that to happen .
Since a recent rebuild I notice my idle is way better than it used to be - vacuum is the same .
When the motor was apart i noticed carbon buildup at the trailing end of the exhaust ports actually partially blocking the port . That may have been responsible for the stuttering idle on the old engine , will never know for sure .

I too have been having a rough idle recently.. I'm thinking my MAF is being fussy because I took apart my intake and found a load of oil in the accordion tube.

My friend just took his car in for this. He said his RPM's would dip hard like the car was going to stall. Its bad coils new wires and might need new plugs too. Dont get stealer ship rapped buy the stuff and do it at home. Its a 1hr job tops.

My 8 used to hate idling. It would shudder and burble while dropping about 250 RPMs every minute or two. It didn't seem to cause any problems other than a vibrating seat and shifter, so I never worried about it too much.

I get this every once in awhile at idle. However i am on the stock/original coils and plugs at 41k miles so taking care of those should take care of the problem

Low compression? is that a common thing?

Compression is a key indicator of engine health, especially in a rotary.

Have to agree with the new plugs and coils. Mine would do this once and awhile and recently misfired causing the check engine light to come on. Dealer replaced all plugs and coils under warranty and it has been fine since.
