the new flash was performed in nov. so as i've been reading threads, i think the compression possibly could be the problem here.

mazda didnt cut our parts department much of a deal on them and charged full blown factory price.
Could have been worse. A few years ago list price for plugs was $240. You can get a set from vendors here (or Amazon or sparkplugs.com) for around $80. Worth having a spare set on hand.

Since you're not turning it off cold, it's not your fault.

The latest flash delays fuel injection a couple of turns on starting, to reduce odds of flooding. It also turns off fuel flow if you floor it while cranking, so in principle you don't have to pull the fuse. Newer models have a stronger starter, and the faster cranking helps with flooding.

That exhausts my knowledge, most of which I learned here. There are lots of posts on how stronger ignition coils help. I'd also wonder if the fuel system is OK - maybe you have the equivalent of a stuck choke. Has gas mileage been in the expected range?

freeway 20-28.. wow 8 mpg difference in there usually its like 2 maybe 3 difference.

Im lucky to get 18 on highway at speed of 70-75 mph... anything above 80 it drops.lol this is with MM tune also! lol

But id start with your coils, replace them and see if it helps.

Just don't order them from the same place that charged $144 for a set of plugs. Check the forum vendors.

Gas mileage sounds like it's in range. The official EPA numbers are 18 city, 24 highway, and yours fall short by the customary amount. So it's not like the fuel injection system is hosing you down.

A RX-8 is like a woman, you gotta make her warm before you turn her off.

i NEVER SHUT THIS CAR OFF COLD.

took the 8 for a long coast drive today. and after i got home, the thing still was hard starting. and keep in mind the car is warm from the drive, and its 80 degrees outside.

this is NOT a driver error problem.

sounds like you have either a compression issue, carbon buildup, or bad spark. try decarbing, if that doesnt' work, replace the coils, and if that doesn't work, bring it to the dealer and tell them you're having problems starting it when the engine is warm.

you're in the US right? cuz if u're no way the dealership ppl wouldn't know about the recall.

technically speaking its not engine recall, is an emission recall.

You pulled the plugs and fuel came out?

Did you you air dry the chamber?

If you had liquid you need to completely dry it out or you will flood the new plugs.

HAve you checked out Mazda Manic's Access Port yet?
