Well for posting on the civic forum, it was a pretty good write up. Didn't bash the hell out of the 8. Seemed pretty fair. I am still going to buy an 8 over anything else.

Loved the Civic EX from 94. Last gen Type R was fantastic, too.

The newest one is the worst ever. Hate the interior, hate the ride quality, hate the sound it makes - total rice.

HATE THE DASH AND INSTRUMENT PANEL. TRULY HIDEOUS.

Massive fail.

Top Gear (Clarkston) raced the last gen Type R with the New Type R, and it wasn't even close - the last gen was better in EVERY respect.

For DD, I will say Honda FIT is nice.

Civic is just overpriced. nothing really special about them.

I still use my Rx-8 almost everyday. need to switch to drive the FIT more. nothing wrong with my 8, I dont care about MPG, yeah it cost like 38 bux to fill the FIT and cost 65 for my 8. but Fun factor wise :

RX-8 : 1
FIT : 0

that's teh European Type R, which is nothing like the Si sold here

did clarkson say the new type R uses a TORSION BEAM rear suspension!?!?

i'm pretty certain the Si sold here is fully independent rear suspension

Not to mention though Clarkson's "race" shows one thing, the new Type R was tested to be quite a bit faster on the Top Gear test track than the old Type R. Plus, of course our Si has very little in common with the European Type R; it's much more similar to the Japanese Type R which uses the sedan platform as well.

I quite like the Si. Sure it's not a RX-8, but it isn't designed to be one. As a well rounded sport compact, I think it offers a winning blend of practicality, economy, sportiness, and comfort.

I have owned a Civic Type-R EDM version of course and it was a great car with only two problems.

1. Fwd sucks!

2. No LSD.

RX-8 is a true sportscar, Civic SI or CTR arent but they are great DD and the best fwd cars out there.

Not a bad comparison but the Civic Si is overrated in my opinion.

I would much rather take a DC5.

My thoughts on the Civic:

FWD = =(

No option for leather.

No Xenons, you could do a retrofit kit and blind everyone with your glare.

Everyone and their mother has a Civic.

The interior is complete garbage.

All Type R models came with a LSD from the factory, how did yours not have one?

"I know the 8 has damn near a 50/50 weight dist. However I think the Si with an HFP suspension upgrade and a Hondata reflash would beat it at the track."

Ok this one had me nearly in tears laughing. I don't know how many times a civic (riced or not) has tried to stick with me on a clover leaf and end up giving up halfway through and I'm not even trying. I'm far from a high performance driver but the 8 seems to want more every corner I take.

Civics=fail/dumb/rice
8's=real man's car

It is nice to see some civic owners realize that in the long run they are the same as the 93 civic with 18's and a fart can and a system even if they are in an 08 they are all the same

That's why I'm looking at getting a MX5 as a DD.
29 mpg! woot!
And lowers my car insurance overall by $50 (who would have thought)!

The Mini Cooper S works great as a DD, too. You're not a lemming, the car has garnered excellent handling and reliability ratings, and it gets great gas mileage.

I just wish they would do something with the interior. Maybe offer an 'adult' version or one that is 'ergonomic'.

No, Europe version of CTR (thats EP3) has never had any LSD.

many CTR owners here buy the JDM gearbox just to get LSD.

I agree that the center speedometer is the dumbest thing ever. Thank Toyota for bringing it back into vogue.

Actually a TRUE retrofit would prevent glare as you'd be building a new back housing for projectors so you'd get projectors and HID bulbs and ballasts...What causes glare are those plug and play HID 'kits' that just come with bulbs and ballasts.

Yes the interior of the civic sucks.

I like the review and the comments. It's rare for other boards to actually praise the 8 instead of putting it down, like the Z / Mustang boards do.
