I never follow the recommended shift point. you need to feel the engine power curve.

The mazda shift points are that low to get mpgs.

Fuel = Happiness. Increase one and well since the equation is of equal value you increase the other. So instead of worrying about the fuel mileage, you need to make a deicsion. How happy would you like to be?
