Series II Handheld Tuner Hope
Well, I was a little bothered by the aftermarket having basically blown off the Series II, since Mazda went and changed everything computer related, but I haven't lost hope. After seeing Hypertech's handheld tune over 50 horses from a Speed3 on Horsepower TV, I decided to e-mail them. I sent this:
"Hello,
I own a '09 Mazda RX-8 Series 2, and I'm wondering if there will be a tuner available for the car in the future? Your RX-8 products stop at 2008, before the '09 update. Any information on future plans would help.
Thanks"
And got this:
"Yes, we do plan to add support for the 2009 models, but we don’t have it on the schedule at this time. Make sure you put in a product request on our website, so we can contact you when something becomes available. The link to our product request page is http://209.12.144.7/requests.php.
Thanks.
Hypertech Inc.
901-382-8888 Phone
901-373-5290 Fax"
God only knows why it's blue, but nevertheless, it's something. I told them they can have my car to test with if it speeds up the process at all.
Anyway, don't know if this has been posted before or if there already is a handheld tuner for the S2, so flame me if you must. If there isn't, then I guess I'm going to hold out for this. Maybe if we all put in a request and they get flooded, it'll add incentive to put it on the schedule sooner.
For anyone that doesn't know, Hypertech is a company that does nothing but handheld tuners. They use to do performance chips, but stopped as far as I know. They have a good reputation among USDM cars, and their tuners can do everything from redline adjustments to CEL clears.
Anyone used their tuner for the S1 RX8?

well, I dont really think those electronic stuff would give you a big power increase.
on the other hand if you plan to have the engine boosted, those things might help.

To tweak the redline, clear CELs, perhaps improve mpg and get like 10-20hp, I think it might be worth it.
And if you mod your car at all, I'm sure it would help get the most out of it.

I zoom therefore I am.

In one sentance they tell you they plan to support the 2009+ models and then tell you they have no plan on to add it to the schedule.

Done wrong sounds about right..
I don't remember who, but does somebody want to remember who had their engine die after, what, 50k miles FI'd, and that was because of something UNRELATED to FI?
wasn't it Easy?

fi engines do not crap out after 30K.
For instance I blew an engine on the back straight of Road Atlanta because a gas line fitting let go and it leaned the engine out so fast there was no warning at all. If my engine had not been FI it still would have blown ( lost apex seal)
We have members of the FI will well over 30K.
My new engine has over 15 K already and about 750 track miles.
As long as the tune is good, you keep your temps under control--its fine.
There is more maintenance.

Wow. I never mentioned FI at all. Haha.
Jason, the engine will keep throwing CELs if you run a midpipe, won't it? Even if you do unplug the battery.
Also, UPDATE, the guy said to expect prototypes being tested early next year. Their schedule doesn't reach that far into the future apparently.
