Yep, VR. Only $28k now (FOB PR; just a grand more than I paid for my Shinka new). Someone really ought to jump on this great deal.

"Anticipating future rules changes in the ALMS, we created a new closed cockpit which would be more appropriate for a future production model," said von Holzhausen. "The major element we did not change is the 450-horsepower RENESIS-based R20B three-rotor rotary engine that provides the Furai's ample Zoom-Zoom.

The people on this forum really can be dicks sometimes. If I were a new owner, or a potential new owner, I'd walk away from this place and not look back. You guys give a bad name to this community.
And yes, I'm as much of an ******* online as anybody...so for me to notice and comment on it, just reiterates the gravity of the situation.
I bet you guys were all flaming idiots with regard to these cars and setups before you spent two or three years here yourselves.

I zoom therefore I am.
Someone asking for help is great, I try to actually be helpful to those people. Someone being lazy and posting a thread with the phrase "300 rwhp" and then showing how little they've actually done to find out about how to get there is sad.
I'm sorry if you think we're giving this forum a bad name, but I think i've helped a whole lot more people then i've ticked off.

I actually did research before posting it so I can be sure of what I thought was right, that way i dont look like a dumbass noob when I posted. From the reading ....

the furai 20b is basically a 13g peripheral port engine with a couple of changes. it was built with Racing Beat pp housings , which are factory 13b housings that RB cuts the pp into.( the port timing is different than factory resulting in more average power. ) It does use renesis rotors and eshaft(extended obviously) but there is nothing "multi side port" about the Furai engine.
this same combination had been running in the C65 Courage chassis since 2005 http://www.mulsannescorner.com/couragec65-9.html before being showcased in the Furai and had been around for a year or so before that . Jim Mederer partnered with Motec to tune the beast with E100 for Furai.

of course we were, but most of us took the time to read the forums and actually learn about the car instead of making a useless thread. With the rx8 getting cheaper and cheaper on the used car market, threads like these are only going to get more prevalent. I like coming here and reading interesting threads not "what intake is the best" or "i want to go FI, what do i need, I have 900 dollars to spend" or my favorite "HELP! Milky substance on my dipstick!!"

The bottom line is anytime a newer member asks a question they get their asses reamed on this forum, and I for one am sick of seeing it go on. Hell, for that matter, when I first joined and started posting you guys tried it with me.

Yvan, as many here have stated, stock HP is pretty close to what your gonna get. For a maxed out NA Rx8 your gonna be looking at COBB AP or some other tunable interface, cat delete, 3 inch exhaust, ram air, BHR Coils, pulleys, flywheel, clutch and a hand full of other small knick knacks. If your tune is good and you have good compression, youll be in the 190-215 whp range. Stock is usually from 170-205 Whp range.
There is not a lot you can do to save weight in this car. Most weight saving comes at a cost of daily drivability or safety. The exhaust is heavy. Id start there. If you just dont give a damn, you can remove your rebars.
If power is your thing, Id look elsewhere. Even with basic FI most people are pushing about 275 whp. Thats a stock-ish STI/Evo/370 etc... Beyond that, things get really expensive. Dollar per hp wise, the RX8 really is one of the most cost ineffective cars you can try to fix up. Also, once you start adding big power mods, reliability goes down the drain quick. Some people may argue against this saying that if its done right, it should be reliable but from what ive seen, VERY few rx8s with 300+whp last. An Evo with minor exhaust mods and a reflash will give you close to 400 awdhp. It will probably last longer too.
Im on my 3rd engine, 2nd tranny, 2nd diff, 2nd water pump, like 6-7th set of coils. Now im overheating on track days so ill be on my 4th engine soon. I have 80K on my car miles and am NA. Ive had a greddy turbo kit for 2+ years and never installed it because I decided to wait and go to driving schools and track days first before i seek more power. My car has and WILL continue to see a lot of track time. Im acutally debating just keeping it NA but it really depends on what you want your car for.
If you decide to keep your 8, just know that your car looks sexy, but for the money there are cars that out perform it in almost every category from MPG to HP to handling. The 8 does well in Bstock (i think C stock now) autocross if thats your thing. In road racing, its a dog at most tracks with long straights and is outhandled by a lot of the competition. On the freeway, it has horrible gas mileage and no power. Aftermarket support is small and appears to have shrunk dramatically since I last shopped for parts. Im keeping my rx8 for no other reason other then I love it.
This forum has a lot of VERY smart people and a lot of good information. It also has a lot of *** holes. Most answers your looking for is on here but youll have to seach.
good luck

Alright, first things first... the douchebag/sarcastic remarks are unnecessary but at the same time, anyone who honestly has done even the SLIGHTEST of reading/research would know the difference between a respectable question and a dumb one. The community is not responsible for spoon feeding every single new owner that comes along and posts a thread like that. The information is already dispersed around the forum and even some of the least tech savvy people can access it in about 30 minutes. Our search engine sucks but it works. We are also very fortunate to have very specific categories on the forum. If what he was looking for was a huge increase in power, he would just have to scroll down and click on the "Major Horsepower Modifications" forum and after that... BAM, stickies everywhere for him to read, filled with tons of useful information.
Long story short, he kinda had it coming for him although some of you guys DID take it out of line.

I'm not gonna lie, it gets exhausting sometimes seeing the same questions posted over and over and over. But I made a realization a few months back, when rather than telling someone to search, I searched myself.
Guess what I found?
Pages and pages of thread upon thread of people getting flamed with next to no actual information contained. And when there is information, it was more likely to be bad information (intentionally or not)
No real surprise huh?
After that I have only rarely asked people to search, because with that kind of bad information and crap to sort through, even if we got someone who was willing to search, they stood a pretty good chance at bring driven away or being misinformed by what was out there.
Since then, I make a conscious effort to answer the questions posted, as clearly and ably as possible. I don't always succeed in keeping my sarcastic self in check, but I try. I then even collected most of my better answers together into 1 thread so that I can keep referencing that specific one, and/or cut and paste from it rather than hunting for the old posts I did.
Even if the OP doesn't use the information, at least it makes the search engine return relevant results when searches are performed by future owners.
If you would rather leave the forum rather than help to make it a better place, it makes me sad, but not discouraged.

Team, I have trouble respecting you. You are very knowledgeable, very experienced, you know what works and what doesn't. You are probably in the top 1% of the forum in terms of what you know about this car.
But your contribution to even the best questions and threads is no better than what a toddler has to offer aerospace engineering.
I suspect that you "gave up" at some point. Maybe consider giving it a shot again at some point?

It's a lot easier to laugh when your larnyx isn't being strangled by your sphincter ....

I can see why you would laugh in derision at so much of the threads you post in. But you do it even in threads with people who are eager to learn, without a single iota of actual information. (Not saying this thread is one such, it isn't)
I'd just love to see you contribute at some point.

For you no, its just second nature!!!
We all know you came out of your mothers womb with the schematics of the Renesis etched in your pre-frontal cortex.
Your learning curve for working on the rotary engine was 0 days due to this...
At 10 years of age you developed the ability to see into the future. You called Mazda telling them what asses they were for even considering 2 oil injectors instead of 3. Of course since you were 10 they obviously didn't listen to you.
You thought "All series 1 failures could have been saved, if they just listened to me" You kept repeating that over and over. You go into a fit of rage morphing from this sweet innocent boy to the man that you are today.
People consider you the Mozart of Rotary, the Ghangis Khan of thread killing, and the saintliness of Judas.
To me your just good ol' Team.
If I ever need a laugh I just look up your post history. I always find you making fun of some sorry sack who was not blessed with this information from birth.
Thanks for all your worthy contributions.
