Seeking 300 rwhp n/a

Is it possible to get 300 rear wheel horse power out of an n/a engine? And if so, how?

The most expensive and best way is adding another rotor.

Damn. I'll need to wait 3 years before I can start adding another rotor. Who makes the best 3 rotors? Any records of a daily driver 3 rotor built for an rx8? Does anyone know the proposed weight differences?

Realistically speaking, is it easy to get 300whp out of the Renesis? No, it's impossible; you wouldn't even break past 230whp. Can you get 300whp from a N/A 20B engine swap? Yes. Can you get 300+whp from an LS1 swap? Most definitely.

To make a potentially very long story short, you have a lot of research to do. You should head over to the Major Horsepower Upgrade forum and read, read, and read.

Race teams with resources and funding barely get past 220. Including $30,000 ECUs, hundreds of dyno hours measuring tiny changes in header design, etc. Without an engine swap or forced induction, you are limited to about 210 to 215 rwhp with a high budget. Stock this engine is very close to max possible output, only cat and conservative-ish tune keeping it from max. The cost to get to about 215 is about what it takes to go FI for 300..

Oh, and just to save you the trouble, when someone says "add another rotor", it doesn't mean you simply pull your motor, buy another rotor from a shop and slap it onto your current engine, they mean you have to do a full engine swap with a 20B engine... this will usually run anywhere from 20,000 to 30,000 if you're paying a shop to do this. And before you ask, "what if I do it?" it's one of those things where if you have to ask, you can't do it.

The easiest way to make power in a Renesis is forced induction. And even though it's the easiest, by no means is it easy. If you wanted easy power, this is definitely the wrong car for that.

Its a full engine swap, not a modification. You would need to purchase, and fully swap a 20B (2.0L 3-rotor engine) into your RX8.

After spending $20,000-$30,000 (on a car worth $10,000-$25,000 resale depending on year/miles) for this swap to acheive what would drive/feel/and sound like a race car, I would not recommend using it as a DD, not to mention to lack of gas mileage you would acheive.

Im being nice because it's evident that you havent done too much homework and are seeking some help.

I suggest starting with small mods, especially since its a DD.

Find a used Accessport, put a midpipe, gut your OEM intake and add a ram air duct.

That'll yield a little extra reliable power at minimal costs (under $2,000). With those mods on a chilly low humidity day with a healthy engine, you may break 200whp. Maybe.

Your car stock will dyno between 170-185whp.

You would be better off getting a used Viper or Corvette.

First you need to take that stupid stick out and hit your head with it, hard.

then repeat step one till you can't hit yourself anymore.

If you want to be a real winner... you would build an R20B...... 3 rotor RENESIS.... HEY Racing Beat & Mazda RnD did it. 450+ horsepower w/0 turbo easily.

Just tie 80 actual horses to the front of your car.

Why stop at 300? I seek 450 whp but my 8 is not a daily driver so I don't mind the added cost of gas. After your done hitting yourself in the head with that stick break it off in your ***.

There was a member in Puerto Rico selling his very nice 3-rotor 2004 '8 for around $45k awhile back. May still be available.

You know what the funniest thing was I posted this and then I found that post on "the basics" and right there it made it pretty damn clear that you'd basically need to pull out a second mortgage to get to 220 rwhp.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a turbo for a dd? Target is 300 rwhp.

I do have a bit of a concern about the gearing-- at 300 rwhp I feel the gears might be a bit tight. What have you guys done about that? Does anyone have some previous posts they might be able to reference?

Any weight reducing ideas that don't dramatically modify the interior aesthetic?

just give me 5 grand. I'll come to your and take a sledgehammer to your engine. This will save you a few thousand dollars and you'll end up with exactly what you're going to get anyway.

Or, and bear with me here, actually spend the time to read the wealth of information on this site about going FI with an RX8. Put in the leg work, make an informed decision, and end up with a very fun daily driver.

But i'm guessing you'll go with the old stand-by of getting upset and storming off in a huff.
