I've read another thread on seat discomfort before, but this problem is different.

There is a piece of the seat back right at the base that is constantly poking the crap out of my lower back! It feels like a piece of folded sheetmetal running horizontally. I think maybe I am missing a piece of padding or something. I can't believe that a seat like that feels like this would ever get into production! I'm planning on going back to the dealership to test some of the other 8's on the lot. If they have it too, then its off to the upholstery shop I go!

On the good side, I am never gonna fall asleep behind the wheel! :p

Am I the only one with this "feature"?

 

I don't know what is wrong with everyone's chairs. Mine are the most confortable seats that I have ever owned.

It's normal. If you raise the bottom portion of the seat up this piece will be hidden by it, but if you lower the bottom of your seat the piece is notably hard at the small of your back/tailbone. Just pump the bottom of the seat up three times and you'll never notice it, or spend some $ and have padding added.

I agree with the above. I have slipped discs at L5 and S1 and get injections almost yearly, but the RX8 seats are among the most comfortable and supportive seats I have sat in! As a matter of fact my pain is subdued when I'm driving, either that or I'm having so much fun I forget about the pain.

 

Probably Both...Rx8 = too cool

 

okay, I tried raising the seat. It works pretty well. But its a damn good thing I am only 5'9" tall. I dont see how you taller people can stand that piece of metal in your back. I had to raise the seat all the way to the limit before I didn't feel it trying to sparate my lower vertebrae....The cloth that covers that thing is actually slightly more worn from rubbing on my back!

The piece of metal has bugged me too. I'm 5'9" and I have the seat lowered almost all the way to give me some headroom under the sunroof. I have gotten used to it over the past few months and have not bothered to do anything.

It should be relatively easy to unfasten the fabric where it clips together and slip a piece of foam over the metal. I had to do some work on my VW seats and it is surprisingly easy to undo the fabric and get to the frame. I think this is easier than working with the dealer on this stuff.

You guys with the metal piece poking you in the back are talking about the cloth seats, right?

The leather seats have adjujstable lumbar support which pretty much eliminates this issue. When I was shopping for my 8 I noticed that the cloth seats have really poor lumbar support, which is a HUGE part of the reason I got the GT package.

Pete, if you lower the seat you find that exposes a piece of the frame of the upper seat - right at the bottom. It feels like a piece of the frame for the back....it just happens to protrude a couple of inches and has NO padding to cover it up! Raising the seat to the highest position seems to be a fix for me. That puts the metal piece right in the "crack" (hahaha) and out of my lower back.

 

There was a thread on this quite a while ago with pics and how to adjust for it...

 

I was going to say, if you had the power seats you could tilt the front up, but I dont know if you can do that in the cloth version.
